Book Description
SAE J1942, developed through the cooperative efforts of the U.S. Coast Guard and SAE, became effective August 28, 1991, as the official document for nonmetallic flexible hose assemblies for commercial marine use. This SAE Standard covers specific requirements for several styles of hose and/or hose assemblies in systems on board commercial vessels inspected and certificated by the U.S. Coast Guard. It is intended that this document establish hose constructions and performance levels that are essential to safe operations in the marine environment. Refer to SAE J1273 for selection, installation, and maintenance of hose and hose assemblies. Refer to SAE J1527 Marine Fuel Hose for hose to convey gasoline or diesel fuel aboard small craft, including pleasure craft and related small commercial craft regulated directly or by reference under 33 CFR 183 Subpart J, and boats and yachts meeting American Boat and Yacht Council standards. SAE J1942-1 -- Qualified Hoses for Marine Applications is a listing of the products which have been certified for use in the applications described in SAE J1942, Table 1 -- HOSE APPLICATION/CONSTRUCTION, for Fluid Power, Fuel Oil, Lube Oil, Water, and Pneumatic systems. SAE J1942-1 is updated yearly and is available from SAE as a single copy document.

Book Description
Effective August 28, 1991, the SAE replaced the USCG as the listing agency for Marine Hose Assemblies. The previous USCG list was discontinued as of December 31, 1992, and is being replaced by this SAE listing, J1942-1. All products appearing on the USCG list as of December 31, 1992, may be carried over to the SAE J1942-1 provided they meet the new test requirements listed in SAE J1942. If your products comply, you may retain your listings with no additional testing. (Please note that the USCG has the authority to request and inspect your test results at their discretion.) The following list consists of hose data provided as of April 30, 1998, and is for convenience in determining acceptability of nonmetallic flexible hose assemblies intended for usage under 46 CFR 56.60-25(c). Where the maximum allowable working pressure (MAWP) or type of fitting is not specified, use the manufacturer's recommended MAWP or type of fitting. This list has been compiled by SAE Staff from information provided by the manufacturers whose product listings appear in this document. Manufacturers wishing to list their products in this document shall: a. Successfully test their hose to the requirements of SAE J1942, Table 1.b. Submit a letter of certification to the SAE J1942 test requirements for each specific type of hose tested. All sizes should be included in the same letter which must also include all of the information necessary to make a SAE J1942-1 listing.c. The SAE will review the letter and may, at their discretion, request to see some, or all, of the test results. A copy of the submittal letter marked "Accepted For Listing" will be returned to the applicant and a duplicate copy sent to the USCG.d. The cutoff date for inclusion of a hose listing in the annual SAE Handbook is April 30, of the preceding year. However, listed hoses may be used on vessels as soon as the "Accepted For Listing" letter is issued by the SAE. Next publication of this listing is scheduled to take place on June 30, 1999. If you wish to include additional hoses in the 1999 publication of this list, please submit your Certified List to SAE Headquarters by April 30, 1999.

Book Description
This SAE Standard provides general, dimensional and performance specifications for the most common hoses used in hydraulic systems on mobile and stationary equipment. The general specifications contained in Sections 1 through 12 are applicable to all hydraulic hoses and supplement the detailed specifications for the 100R-series hoses contained in the later sections of this document. This document shall be utilized as a procurement document only to the extent as agreed upon by the manufacturer and user. The rated working pressure of a hose assembly comprising SAE J517 hose and hose fitting end connections per SAE J516, J518, J1453, etc., shall not exceed the lower of the respective SAE working pressure rated values. When using SAE J 517 hose for marine applications, see SAE J 1475, J 1942 and J 1942-1.The SAE J 517 100R9, 100R10 and 100R11 hoses will be discontinued beginning with the year 2005, due to lack of demand. The SAE J 517 100R1A, 100R2A, 100R2B and 100R2BT will be discontinued beginning with the year 2005 due to lack of demand. For DOD orders after 2004, use 100R1AT and 100R2AT to replace 100R1A and 100R2A.The SAE J 517 100R2AT maximum working pressures will be replaced by the type S maximum working pressures beginning with the year 2006, eliminating the need to label 100R2 as type S.The SAE J 517 100R16 maximum working pressures will be replaced by the type S maximum working pressures with the year 2008, eliminating the need to label 100R16 as type S.
