Apart from these reason, nationality is also an influential variable. Language is divided into superiority and inferiority such as English is the most popular and people are eager to learn. Because of military power, economy, and international status if its adapted countries, it acts as lingua franca that mean a common medium of communication for the speakers from different countries. It indicated that people tend to choose advanced countries’ language. Nonetheless, this is just an observation to English by sociologist. This research was designated to study the feelings and perceptions of people towards some rare and strange languages, like Kanuri and Welsh. Supposedly, Kanuri that used in Nigeria would not be welcomed so much by people while Welsh that used in United Kingdom would be positively thought by others. Then, through the pattern of interviewees’ description on the languages, and the contrast of interviewees’ reaction after letting them know the origin of the languages, one of discussion in this research that was to find whether the reputation of countries affect people’s perception of the languages would be revealed. Also, this research would like to study the relationship between the degree of acceptance of various language of the interviewees and the number of acquired languages besides the biliteracy and trilingualism in Hong Kong.

A detailed contrastive analysis between Cantonese and (a) English, (b) Modern Written Chinese, and (c) Putonghua helps explain the nature of the linguistic and acquisitional challenges involved. Economic forces and sociopolitical realities helped shape the ‘mother tongue education’ or ‘dual MoI streaming’ policy since September 1998. The book provides a critical review of the significant milestones and key policy documents from the early 1990s, and outlines the concerns of stakeholders at the receiving end. Another MoI debate concerns the feasibility and desirability of teaching Chinese in Putonghua (TCP). Based on a critical review of the TCP literature and recent psycholinguistic and neuroscience research, the language-in-education policy implications are discussed, followed by a few recommendations. Hongkongers of South Asian descent saw their life chances curtailed as a result of the post-1997 changes in the language requirements for gaining access to civil service positions and higher education. Based on a study of 15 South Asian undergraduate students’ prior language learning experiences, recommendations are made to help redress that social inequity problem.

In conducting the research the researcher uses qualitative and quantitative approach method and sources data from both primary and secondary sources. Primary data are collected through the use of questionnaire with open-ended variables while secondary data collection is from existing literature on the project topic. Likert-type scale arranged in order of "very significantly", "significantly", "neutral", "insignificantly" and "very insignificantly" are used to get respondents opinion on the variables. The major research questions are: What are the effects of Nigerian Pidgin on students’ performance in English studies? Are students allowed to use Nigerian Pidgin in academic works? The general objective of the study is to find out the impact of Nigerian Pidgin on students’ performance in English studies while the hypotheses posit for the study include: Ho1: There is no significant relationship between Nigerian Pidgin and students’ performance in English Studies. Ho2: There is no significant relationship between students’ use of Nigerian Pidgin on the outcome of their academic performance. The major results of the study indicate that 94% or the respondents posits that Nigerian Pidgin affects academic performance while the test of hypothesis with a degree of freedom 4 percent indicate that there is a significant relationship between Nigerian Pidgin and students’ performance in English studies. The study recommends that the use of Nigerian Pidgin in an academic community such as Junior Secondary School Bwari, Abuja should not be encouraged. The study suggests that a more robust examination on the research topic involving other academic communities be conducted. Besides,, a comparative study on the impact of Pidgin on students’ performance in other English speaking countries should be carried out in order to investigate how its been handled.
