That the work cannot fail to have sufiered from the fact that other hands than his must bring it to completion, is fully appreciated, but it is believed that its value is such as to overshadow the imperfections of its editing, and to justify the editors in asking for the indulgence of its readers. The aim of the writer was not only to chronicle past events, but also to inspire the present generation with a just pride and with love for the city which was so dear to him, and to perpetuate the names of its heroes. If the years shall prove that this threefold endeavor has been successful, then will be realized the earnest hope with which this vol ume is offered to the public, namely that it may be a noble and lasting monument to the memory of its author. Book Description
Excerpt from The Records of the Borough of Northampton, Vol. 2 of 2: 1550 to 1835 Town Council of Northampton on the condition and contents of their muniments with a View to printing and publication. In accordance with this request, a report was presented through the Town Clerk. Eventually, after some delay, the Corporation decided to undertake the publication of two volumes, the last of which has fallen into my hands. It was decided that those who did the work should do so on independent lines, so that I am only responsible for this volume. The plan adopted has no doubt its advantages, but it prevents any unity of action. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from The Records of the Borough of Northampton, Vol. 2: 1550 to 1835 The particular circumstances under which this volume was produced have rendered it more liable than usual to author's slips and printer's errors when under revision. I have noticed about a score, but so far as I am aware, they are all trivial and readily detected, so it is not thought worth while to insert a list of errata.
