Vacant Residential Building Fires
Author: Barry Leonard
Publisher: DIANE Publishing
ISBN: 1437938280
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 11
Book Description
This is a print on demand edition of a hard to find publication. This report is based on 2006 to 2008 data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS). According to the report, an estimated 28,000 vacant residential building fires occur annually in the U.S., resulting in an estimated average of 45 deaths, 225 injuries, and $900 million in property loss. Vacant residential fires are considered part of the residential fire problem as they comprise approximately 7 percent of residential building fires. In addition, intentional is the leading cause of vacant residential building fires which are more prevalent in July (9 percent), due in part to an increase in intentional fires on July 4 and 5. Finally, almost all vacant residential building fires are non-confined and half spread to involve the entire building. Charts and tables.

Construction Materials and Their Properties for Fire Resistance and Insulation
Author: Paul O. Awoyera
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0443216215
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 364
Book Description
Construction Materials and Their Properties for Fire Resistance and Insulation covers the properties of novel types of concrete and other more conventional building materials in fire scenarios. The volume also stands out as an invaluable reference resource for its relevance to varied audiences both in academia and industry, spanning materials science, civil and structural engineering, and fire safety engineering. Ensuring buildings are fire safe starts at the very beginning of planning new builds or renovations. Hence, it's essential, in fact, that the right materials are chosen not only according to their load-bearing capabilities but also their susceptibility to decay and fire resistance. - Provides appropriate inputs for material behavior at elevated temperatures generated by fire, which is key to enable the assessment of various construction materials' fire performance - Illustrates the effects of fire on materials' performance to support decisions related to a building's safe structural rehabilitation - Includes probabilistic models, numerical studies, and application cases
