Book Description
The hazard of GaAs diode array lasers with their searchlight-like beams must be evaluated differently than conventional lasers. This report evaluates the ocular hazards of Solid State Laser, Type AN/AAQ-7, one of the GLINT series of illuminators. It was found that an optical density of 1.39 is required for protection within a distance of 22.4 m. from the laser for a 5-second exposure. (Author).

Ocular Hazard of the Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) Laser

Book Description
The Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) Semiconductor laser is finding application in many devices which subject human eyes to laser irradiation. This study evaluated a single diode laboratory device to determine an ED50 level in rhesus monkeys. The RCA 7610 GaAs laser diode used in this experiment was cooled to cryogenic temperature (77K) to allow rapid pulsing, thus increasing average power enough to create retinal burns.

Gallium Arsenide Lasing Diode Evaluation
Author: Allen C. Johnson
Publisher:

Pages : 16
Book Description
This study was undertaken to relate the output power of certain Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) infrared lasers to the type of laser, to input current, and to temperature while pulse width and repetition rate are held constant. An initial objective, to evaluate long-term reliability of the lasers, was discontinued because the diodes under test were made obsolete by technological advances.

Ocular Hazard of the GaAs Laser
Author:
Publisher:
ISBN:

Pages : 10
Book Description
The GaAs laser is used in intrusion alarm systems, secure communication links, and short distance range-finders. By use of multiple diode arrays, high average power visually covert illumination is possible for night vision and range gated systems. Each of these applications exposes human eyes to GaAs laser radiation, and thus it is necessary to determine the ocular hazard of these lasers. An experimental determination is reported of the damage threshold of ocular damage using a GaAs laser.
