So if we review our own biographies a bit it will aid in understanding both the facts and the meaning of events observed else where. Now some of the characteristics of Am erica I should like to refer to, for the mean ing of any comparisons with Europe will be clearer for having done so. First of all, in language, in trade, and in general cul tural background, North America is a very large area for so large a measure of uni formity of view. Excerpt from Harvard Medical Alumni Bulletin, Vol. 12: June, 1938 The urine was peculiarly cherry-red and often had a very syrupy consistency. Specific gravity was noted as practically normal between and There was a large trace of albumin. The sedi ment contained a great many red blood cells and white blood cells. There were a few granular casts. Special study was made of the urinary sediment for tubercle bacilli, none were found. The blood was essentially normal. The hemoglobin was about 8070 (s). Differential showed 60% polymorphonuclears and about 3270 lymphocytes. The smear was negative. Sputum was examined with considerable care and no tubercle bacilli found.
