Grain boundaries are important structural components of polycrystalline materials used in the vast majority of technical applications. The report discusses two investigations of temper embrittlement in low alloy quenched and tempered steel. Part I deals with additive effects of phosphorus and antimony as embrittling impurities in this type of grain-boundary embrittlement. Part II describes efforts to develop a method of determining the degree of segregation of alloys and impurities to grain-boundaries during temper embrittlement.
