Book Description
The idea of covenant was at the heart of early New England society. In this singular book David Weir explores the origins and development of covenant thought in America by analyzing the town and church documents written and signed by seventeenth-century New Englanders. Unmatched in the breadth of its scope, this study takes into account all of the surviving covenants in all of the New England colonies. Weir's comprehensive survey of seventeenth-century covenants leads to a more complex picture of early New England than what emerges from looking at only a few famous civil covenants like the Mayflower Compact. His work shows covenant theology being transformed into a covenantal vision for society but also reveals the stress and strains on church-state relationships that eventually led to more secularized colonial governments in eighteenth-century New England. He concludes that New England colonial society was much more "English" and much less "American" than has often been thought, and that the New England colonies substantially mirrored religious and social change in Old England.

Book Description
Pound Ridge began as an isolated town where shoe making, dairy farming, and basket making were the main occupations. It is blessed with being located slightly away from main highways, industrial development, and commercial sprawl, and during its first 200 years of settlement, Pound Ridge's isolation was also its greatest asset. In the late 19th century, the town had key local industries that provided employment for its residents, but by the time of the Great Depression, the town's population had dwindled to around 500 residents. During the 1960s, Ye Great Meadow on Long Ridge Road was the alternate site for the United Nations world headquarters. Pound Ridge features rarely seen archival photographs of important events and buildings, as well as maps and historical narrative that span 300 years.

Book Description
It was the summer of 1776. In New York City George Washington’s army faced an overwhelming frontal attack by the British army and navy. Tories in the adjacent counties north of the city were forming companies to assist the British by attacking Washington’s rear guard and preventing the patriots’ escape. As Enoch Crosby traveled alone plying his trade, he fell in with a band of these Tories. Crosby might have spent his days as an itinerant shoemaker, but colonial America was spiraling into a maddening rebellion. The decision he made that night would change his life forever.

Book Description
Insubordinate Spirit is a unique exploration into the life of Elizabeth Winthrop and other seventeenth-century English Puritans who emigrated to the rough, virtually untouched wilderness of present-day New England. Excerpts from newly discovered personal diaries and correspondence provide readers with not only fascinating insights into the hardships, dangers, and losses inherent to English and Dutch settlers in the 1600s, but also first-hand descriptions of the local Native Americans' family life, allegiances, and society. Caught between the unendurable expectations of her Puritan relatives and land disputes with the neighboring Dutch, Elizabeth Winthrop demonstrated a tremendous strength of resolve to protect her own family and remain true to her heart.

Book Description
In the summer of 1779, British general Sir Henry Clinton launched one last attempt to gain control of the Hudson River, the most strategically important waterway during the American Revolution. The campaign involved all of George Washington's main Continental Army and most of the forces around New York City under Clinton's command, but ended without a major battle. Still, the summer saw plenty of action. American cavalry sparred with their British counterparts in eastern New York; thousands of militiamen resisted brutal British raids along the Connecticut coast; and Washington stunned the British with daring night bayonet attacks on the fortified posts of Stony Point and Paulus Hook. This study details the strategy, tactics, officers, soldiers, and spies that shaped this critical campaign, which helped set the stage for America's final victory in the Revolution.
