Book Description
I photographed these image photo-paintings when I visited Santa Barbara in 2008. It was my first time going there and as a psychic who sees 'spirit' and senses energies, I was impressed by the tremendous amount of psychic spirit energy there. Santa Barbara, California, from the perspective of the psychic artist is a place filled with spirits and ghosts. As the Psychic Artist, I take photographs and am attracted to places that have unusual energies of spirit. I usually take thousands of photographs when I visit places. I then pick the ones that I feel and sense have psychic energy of some kind. I then arduously work on them aiming to artistically convey to others what I, as a psychic, SEE! In other words, these photo-paintings exemplify what I see as a psychic and this is what I am trying to convey! This book is PART I of two parts. Together, both books encompass the following sections:I Spirit Energy Living Auras: In this series of paintings I was inspired by spirits, ghosts and energy that I sensed in different urban and ocean locations.II Spiritual Esoteric Landscapes: This series expresses the essence and FEEL of environmental energy at different times of the day or night.III Metaphysical Realism: In this series I wanted to show a more realistic photo-painting style based on physical reality.IV Black & White Romantic Nostalgia: I enjoy black and white photo-art because of its dramatic expression and power.V Tropical Palm Tree Quadtych: There are scenes that most be painted in different colors. This is what this series exemplifies. VI Floral Kisses: I enjoy flowers and their energies tremendously. Everything has energy, plants and flowers too. In this series I am trying to capture the energy of the flowers. In this book we are presenting Sections I & II.

Book Description
“Failing schools. Underprivileged schools. Just plain bad schools.” That’s how Eve L. Ewing opens Ghosts in the Schoolyard: describing Chicago Public Schools from the outside. The way politicians and pundits and parents of kids who attend other schools talk about them, with a mix of pity and contempt. But Ewing knows Chicago Public Schools from the inside: as a student, then a teacher, and now a scholar who studies them. And that perspective has shown her that public schools are not buildings full of failures—they’re an integral part of their neighborhoods, at the heart of their communities, storehouses of history and memory that bring people together. Never was that role more apparent than in 2013 when Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced an unprecedented wave of school closings. Pitched simultaneously as a solution to a budget problem, a response to declining enrollments, and a chance to purge bad schools that were dragging down the whole system, the plan was met with a roar of protest from parents, students, and teachers. But if these schools were so bad, why did people care so much about keeping them open, to the point that some would even go on a hunger strike? Ewing’s answer begins with a story of systemic racism, inequality, bad faith, and distrust that stretches deep into Chicago history. Rooting her exploration in the historic African American neighborhood of Bronzeville, Ewing reveals that this issue is about much more than just schools. Black communities see the closing of their schools—schools that are certainly less than perfect but that are theirs—as one more in a long line of racist policies. The fight to keep them open is yet another front in the ongoing struggle of black people in America to build successful lives and achieve true self-determination.

Book Description
Set in New York City and New Jersey on the cusp of the financial crisis, Ghosts of Bergen County is a literary mystery with supernatural elements. Gil Ferko is a private-equity lieutenant who commutes to Manhattan from the New Jersey suburbs. His wife, Mary Beth, has become a shut-in since a hit-and-run accident killed their infant daughter. When Ferko reconnects with Jen Yoder, a former high school classmate, Jen introduces him to heroin. As his dependency on the drug grows, his downward spiral puts his life in danger and his career in jeopardy. Mary Beth has also found an escape—first in prescription drugs that numb her senses, then in the companionship of a mysterious girl who heightens them. A ghost? Mary Beth believes so. And Jen is also haunted. Years ago she witnessed a man she had just met fall from a rooftop. She walked away from the accident and has been haunted since by the question of why she did so. As her quest to rectify that mistake starts to collide with the mystery of the hit-and-run driver who killed Ferko and Mary Beth’s daughter, all of the characters are forced to face the fine line between fate and happenstance. Dana Cann’s debut novel is a tautly paced and intricately plotted story in which collective burdens manifest into hauntings.
