Book Description
Blackfoot Dam and Reservoir are situated in southeast Idaho in an area of active tectonism which includes recent volcanism, hot springs, and active faults. Three earthquakes were postulated for design purposes with horizontal motions as follows dur = 65 sec: (1) Local: Distance = 0; Ms = 6.5; accel j- 0.68 g, vel = 60 cm/sec, dur = 10 ces. (2) Near field: Distance = 30 km; Ms = 7.5; accel 0.68 g, vel = 60 cm/sec, dur = 10 sec. 3) Far field: Distance = 80 km; Ms = 7.5; accel = 0.25 g, vel = 48 cm/sec. Accelerograms were recommended for use with these parameters. An operating basis earthquake was based on motions for the severest shaking believed to have occurred at the damsite over the past 100 years. The dam and reservoir are situated on a series of lava flows that could be interbedded with loess. Keywords: Earthquake resistant design; ground motion; Geologic faults; Liquefaction; Seismic data.

Book Description
There are no active faults in the region surrounding Gathright Dam, though a notable earthquake occurred in Giles County about 60 km to the southwest. The Giles County source was interpreted to have a maximum potential of MM IX which attenuates to MM VII at the dam and is the severest event to be expected at that site. Peak horizontal motions at the damsite for a mean plus one standard deviation were interpreted as 130 cm/sec2 for acceleration, 14 cm/sec for velocity, and 11 sec for bracketed duration equal to or greater than 0.05 G. These values are for use as parameters in selecting or scaling accelerograms and response spectra for use in dynamic analyses. A recommended group of accelerograms are included in the report. Keywords: Earthquakes, Earthquake motions, Gathright Dam, Seismic zoning, Southwestern Virginia. (sdw).

Book Description
Seismic source zones have been developed for the southeastern United States that are based on the geology and historic seismicity. A floating earthquake was assigned to each source zone and earthquake motions were attenuated to Hartwell and Clemson Upper and Lower Dams. A maximum credible earthquake at each dam is a far field, MM VII (M = 5.5) earthquake. Horizontal ground motions for this earthquake are as follows: acceleration 190 cm/sec2, velocity 14 cm/sec, and duration 11 sec. Acceleration and response spectra appropriate to these values were selected and are included. Where vertical motions are considered, they may be taken at two-thirds of the horizontal. Keywords: Clemson upper and lower dams, Earthquake motions, Earthquakes, Hartwell dams Seismic zoning. (SDW).

Book Description
A seismic zoning was developed for eastern Pennsylvania and adjacent states based on the geology and the historic seismicity. Floating earthquakes were assigned to those zones in the absence of identifiable active faults. At the Prompton and Francis E. Walter Damsites, motions were far field, Modified Mercalli VI, acceleration 0.12g, velocity 7 cm/sec, and 3 sec bracketed duration> or = 0.05g. Accelerograms and response spectra appropriate to these parameters were selected.
