Knjiga osvetljuje kmetijsko obremenjevanje v izbranih slovenskih pokrajinah. Preučevanja so zajela štiri poglavitne slovenske pokrajinske tipe: ravnine, gričevja, hribovja in kraške pokrajine. Terensko raziskovanje na ravni kmetij je potekalo v 18 pokrajinah. Anketiranih je bilo 1006 kmetij in analiziranih 162 vzorcev vode. V ospredju obravnave so kmetije kot razpršeni viri tovrstnega obremenjevanja. Predstavljeni so razširjenost obremenjevanja po posameznih pokrajinah, notranje razlike, pokrajinska povprečja, primerjava med pokrajinami in med pokrajinskimi tipi ter skupno povprečje vseh obravnavanih pokrajin. Avtorica obravnava različne oblike kmetijskega obremenjevanja, njihovo intenzivnost, išče povezave med družbenogospodarsko sestavo kmetij in načini kmetovanja.
