Book Description
A concise introduction to geophysical data processing - many of the techniques associated with the general field of time series analysis - for advanced students, researchers, and professionals. The textbook begins with calculus before transitioning to discrete time series via the sampling theorem, aliasing, use of complex sinusoids, development of the discrete Fourier transform from the Fourier series, and an overview of linear digital filter types and descriptions. Aimed at senior undergraduate and graduate students in geophysics, environmental science, and engineering with no previous background in linear algebra, probability, or statistics, this textbook draws scenarios and datasets from across the world of geophysics, and shows how data processing techniques can be applied to real-world problems using detailed examples, illustrations, and exercises (using MATLAB or similar computing environment). Online supplementary resources include datasets for students, and a solutions manual and all the figures from the book as PowerPoints for course instructors.

Book Description
Geophysical techniques apply the principles of physics for study of physical responses of rocks under passive or active perturbation. Geophysical data acquisition, processing and interpretation are driven by established scientific principles. Data from geophysical tools provide coverage with spatially continuous high density measurements. Well data like cores and well logs provide vertically high resolution measurements at the well location, however, the distribution of wells is sparse and discontinuous. The detailed spatial coverage from geophysical data are calibrated with analysis of well logs, pressure tests, cores, geologic depositional knowledge and other information from appraisal wells. The methods use high precision sensors that measure the properties on the earth's surface, in oceans, in wells and from the air, also from satellites. They measure changes of physical properties and calibrate the measured geophysical attributes with rock properties. The data play important role in developing a gross reservoir model. The reservoir architecture or structure and the reservoir rock and fluid properties are derived from the analysis and data integration. Other reservoir properties that can affect geophysical measurements are density, oil viscosity, stresses, and fractures. The interpretation has inherent ambiguity or multiple interpretations. Geophysics contributes to reservoir characterization, reservoir monitoring and its management by adding maximum value in improving production plan and by minimizing risk e.g., risk of dry hole, risk of blow out, risk of in-efficient recovery process, among others. Multiple geologic parameters are assessed with the same geophysical data.

Book Description
Leverage Big Data analytics methodologies to add value to geophysical and petrophysical exploration data Enhance Oil & Gas Exploration with Data-Driven Geophysical and Petrophysical Models demonstrates a new approach to geophysics and petrophysics data analysis using the latest methods drawn from Big Data. Written by two geophysicists with a combined 30 years in the industry, this book shows you how to leverage continually maturing computational intelligence to gain deeper insight from specific exploration data. Case studies illustrate the value propositions of this alternative analytical workflow, and in-depth discussion addresses the many Big Data issues in geophysics and petrophysics. From data collection and context through real-world everyday applications, this book provides an essential resource for anyone involved in oil and gas exploration. Recent and continual advances in machine learning are driving a rapid increase in empirical modeling capabilities. This book shows you how these new tools and methodologies can enhance geophysical and petrophysical data analysis, increasing the value of your exploration data. Apply data-driven modeling concepts in a geophysical and petrophysical context Learn how to get more information out of models and simulations Add value to everyday tasks with the appropriate Big Data application Adjust methodology to suit diverse geophysical and petrophysical contexts Data-driven modeling focuses on analyzing the total data within a system, with the goal of uncovering connections between input and output without definitive knowledge of the system's physical behavior. This multi-faceted approach pushes the boundaries of conventional modeling, and brings diverse fields of study together to apply new information and technology in new and more valuable ways. Enhance Oil & Gas Exploration with Data-Driven Geophysical and Petrophysical Models takes you beyond traditional deterministic interpretation to the future of exploration data analysis.

Book Description
This publication originated in 1967 as a few notes to accompany a basic seminar for the Canadian SEG and expanded in 1968 into an SEG Continuing Education course. Old and new information about geophysical data processing is consolidated in this edition. How to choose processes and parameters for any given field data is shown.
