Book Description
The first volume to theorize and historicize contemporary artistic practices from Chile in the English language, Dismantling the Nation begins from a position of radical criticism against the nation-state of Chile and its capitalist, heteronormative, and extractivist rule. At a truly pivotal moment in the country’s history, when it is redefining what it wants to be, the works here propose a way of forging a feminist and decolonial future for Chile. The authors attend to practices from distinct locations in Chile, reconceptualizing geographical borders from a transnational and transdisciplinary perspective while engaging with ecocriticism and Indigenous epistemologies. This is an essential volume for anyone looking to understand the current social, political, and artistic movements in Chile.

Uncharted: The New Landscape of Tourism
Author: Juan Elvira
Publisher: Actar D, Inc.
ISBN: 163840982X
Category : Architecture
Languages : en
Pages : 237
Book Description
UNCHARTED / New Landscapes of Tourism has a two-fold objective: to explore new avenues of thought in design teaching, and to do so through research that deals with new architectural landscapes that are linked to tourism. Publishing the Undergraduate Final Projects from IE University’s Undergraduate Architecture program responds to the desire to highlight the importance of design strategies in the process of reformulating the tourist offering within the framework of an open debate about new models for development. The infrastructural nature of architectural design imbues the architect’s creative capacity with the healthy ambition of transforming the territory into new landscapes for touristic opportunities. These new landscapes have been categorized here as productive, urban, industrial, extreme and reversible. UNCHARTED includes additional contributions on architecture, tourism and teaching by José Miguel Iribas, Elia Zenghelis and Eleni Gigantes.

The Most Foreign Country
Author: Alejandra Pizarnik
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781937027605
Category : Argentine poetry
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
Poetry. Translated from the Spanish by Yvette Siegert. First published in 1955 and now translated for the first time into English, THE MOST FOREIGN COUNTRY is Alejandra Pizarnik's debut collection. Here, the nineteen-year-old poet begins to explore the themes that will shape and define her vision: the solitude of the poetic self, the longing for artistic depth, and the tenuous nearness of death. By turns probing and playful, bold and difficult, Pizarnik's earliest poems teem with an exuberant desire to grab hold of everything and to create a language that tests the limits of origin, paradox, and death.

Questioning the Line
Author: Gego
Publisher: University of Texas Press
ISBN: 9780890901199
Category : Art
Languages : es
Pages : 202
Book Description
From the late 1950s until the 1980s, the German-born Venezuelan artist Gego (Gertrud Goldschmidt) made drawings, prints, three-dimensional works, hanging-net pieces (reticulareas), and wire constructions (drawings without paper) of extraordinary quality. Taken as a whole, these works illustrate the issue at the core of her production: the liberation of line from volume and form into space. Though little known outside of Latin America, Gego's work enjoyed a dialogue with twentieth-century artists and movements active not only in Venezuela, but also worldwide. In a series of essays examining her art in relation to Modernism, Informalism, kinetic art, and other tendencies, this volume--the second in the MFAH International Center for the Arts of the Americas series--situates Gego in her international context.

A New Reference Grammar of Modern Spanish
Author: John Butt
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461583683
Category : Foreign Language Study
Languages : en
Pages : 533
Book Description
(abridged and revised) This reference grammar offers intermediate and advanced students a reason ably comprehensive guide to the morphology and syntax of educated speech and plain prose in Spain and Latin America at the end of the twentieth century. Spanish is the main, usually the sole official language of twenty-one countries,} and it is set fair to overtake English by the year 2000 in numbers 2 of native speakers. This vast geographical and political diversity ensures that Spanish is a good deal less unified than French, German or even English, the latter more or less internationally standardized according to either American or British norms. Until the 1960s, the criteria of internationally correct Spanish were dictated by the Real Academia Espanola, but the prestige of this institution has now sunk so low that its most solemn decrees are hardly taken seriously - witness the fate of the spelling reforms listed in the Nuevas normas de prosodia y ortograjia, which were supposed to come into force in all Spanish-speaking countries in 1959 and, nearly forty years later, are still selectively ignored by publishers and literate persons everywhere. The fact is that in Spanish 'correctness' is nowadays decided, as it is in all living languages, by the consensus of native speakers; but consensus about linguistic usage is obviously difficult to achieve between more than twenty independent, widely scattered and sometimes mutually hostile countries. Peninsular Spanish is itself in flux.
