Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.

Pages : 182
Book Description
Excerpt from Fuel, Water and Gas Analysis: For Steam Users Team-users have shown a tendency in the past to neglect the boiler-house for the engine-room, and have concentrated their efforts for the improvement of the efficiency of the plant almost exclusively upon the latter. A study of the losses incurred during the conversion of the thermal energy stored in coal into the thermal energy of steam, will show that it is in the boiler-house that the greater preventable losses are occurring, and that the ratio may be expressed by the numbers 25 and 5. It is however, now beginning to be recognized that a scientifically managed boiler-house is a sine qua non for the economic generation of steam power, and considerable attention is being given by steam-engineers to this portion of their power generating plant.
