The purpose of this book is to offer alternatives to traditional counseling and therapy, advocating for the shift towards coaching instead. In my own journey to resilience, I found little to no help from therapy, counseling, or even western medicine. After losing two sons in one day, my world was turned upside down. On the first day of this tragedy, I was given a prescription for depression, which ultimately led to an accidental overdose. Despite being in counseling at the time, my life continued to spiral downward. My oldest daughter recognized the need for a different approach, intervened by taking me to our wellness doctor and calling my Reiki master to visit me. My wellness doctor discarded my prescription medications and switched me to an all-natural supplement. Meanwhile, my Reiki master visited me three times a week for the following two weeks. The results were astonishing-I began to manage my emotions and move forward with my life. This experience set me on a new path. I delved into the study of trauma and decided to take life coaching class. This was a pivotal moment, and I finally found the final piece of the puzzle. I realized I had discovered a powerful method to help people build resilience when traditional therapy and counseling were not effective for them. Four and half years later, when I lost my youngest daughter to illness, I was better equipped to handle this second tragedy. This wasn't because I had experienced it before, but because I now had a new set of tools. Although it was just as traumatic, I was able to respond in a healthier way. The most important lesson I learned from my coaching classes is the vital importance of embracing the Power to Be Yourself-your birthright to be your authentic self, not what others want you to be, hope you will, or think you are. In this book, I have compiled many of the strategies that helped me build resilience, hoping they will help others on their journey to resilience. Resilience doesn't only stem from trauma; it can also be something a person strives for if they have never experienced the peace, joy and fulfillment they deserve.
