Book Description
Excerpt from Forty-First Annual Report of the Municipal Government of the City of Franklin: For the Financial Year, 1935 This does not mean that the ship of the city sails in abundance; that the vaults are full of money and the debt has been wiped out. No! What rejoices us, what brings us satisfaction, is that our city, without much outside help, as in the past years, has not only been able to subsist, but that it has been able to help, that it is conscious of having done its duty toward the poor, without endangering the credit of the city. Book Description
Excerpt from Forty-Second Annual Report of the Municipal Government of the City of Franklin for the Financial Year 1936 The verdict which you have rendered proved to me that I hadn't made a mistake in thinking that your wishes were in accord with mine and that we are going to continue that mutual respect, that mutual sympathy which has been the one solace, and the sunshine of our relations during all these years and that we are going to work together for the common good of our citizens and of our city. I have been accused of being ambitious! It is true! I have been ambitious to work for my city so that some may say in years to come he made it a happier place to live in, he made it prettier to look at, more attractive in every way, the city that he had the honor and the pleasure of serving and directing. It is certainly not a bad ambition in my opinion and it is not a disgrace to have worked fifteen years for you and my city, even if I have sometimes forgotten to work for myself. I now thank God that He made me forget myself and my own interests. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from Thirty-Sixth Annual Report of the Municipal Government of the City of Franklin for the Financial Year 1930 When you pick up the 1929 City Report you will notice that the city'debt has been substantially increased. This is due to the bond issue which was meces sary to pay for the Hill road construction and for the new Kenrick underpass. Now both of these projects were voted by previous councils, all the 1929 council had to do was to get the money to pay for them. I sometimes wonder whether or not this could not have been better utilized in applying it towards a new high school building which the city sadly needs. 1 am a firm be liever in the advantages derived from good roads, but on the other hand I believe that the majority of the citizens of Franklin derive more advantage from good schools rather than from good roads. Excerpt from Forty-Fourth Annual Report of the Municipal Government of the City of Franklin: For the Financial Year, 1938 Personally, I believe many votes were cast for me on the basis of my published statement, and I still adhere to the policies set forth therein. Now I said that the problem of the administration of relief is a pressing one. No one will deny that it is a controversial one! If I am any judge, the relief burden in the ensuing few months will be increasingly heavy. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
