Nous avons comparé le comportement de phages phiX174 et MS2 et celui de poliovirus, hépatite A et rotavirus SA11 dans un pilote de laboratoire à boues activées. Les résultats montrent que dès l'injection, il y a une réduction virale immédiate dans la phase liquide variable selon le virus. Cette régression, pourrait être expliquée par une adsorption virale instatanée aux matières solides. Le titre viral, dans la phase liquide, est ensuite réduit plus lentement par rapport à la quantité détectée à 10 min pour se stabiliser 3 jours après injection. Le SA11 n'a pas été détecté dans la phase solide. Nous avons recherché la présence et la fréquence saisonnière de virus entériques dans la station d'épuration de Clermont-Ferrand (2002-2003). La recherche des virus entériques dans les eaux usées a été effectuée par RT-PCR. Après séquençage, une analyse phylogénétique a permis de comparer les différentes souches. Rotavirus A et astrovirus ont été identifiés dans 24,1% et 29,3% des échantillons testés. Les eaux épurées étaient plus fréquement positives que les effluents d'entrées. Certaines souches de rotavirus isolées étaient identiques à des souches isolées de patients malades.
