D., Of Pennsylvania, elected Vice President Of this Society in 1850. Dr. Bell was one Of the founders Of the Pennsylvania Colonization Society, which was organized in 1826, and almost till his death he was an active and valuable member Of its Board Of Managers. His faithful watchfulness over its interests, his promptness in the discharge Of duty, and his ever courteous demeanor, can be duly appreciated by only those who were so long and so happily associated with him. Nor was the Colonization enterprise the sole Object Of his benevolent regard. He deeply sympathized with and aided, as he had the ability and Opportunity, other like philanthropic institutions. We would not fail to mention also william silliman, Esq., Of Louisiana, and Hon. William nash, Of Vermont, who were Life Directors Of this Society. Mr. Silliman was made such in 1852, and Mr. Nash in 1860. They were both men who were respected and esteemed in the communities where they lived, for their excellence Of character and their Christian life.
