In 1920, farm machinery worth over was manufactured in the United States, and of this large total, all but worth had to find its market on -'ameri can farms. It has been estimated that, in one lway or another, the farmer uses one-tenth of all the steel produced in the United States, nearly a fourth of all the coal and gasoline, and 46 per cent of all the lumber and timber, or more wood and wood products than any other class of con sumers.
