Book Description
Excerpt from Lippincott Flower Seeds, 1904 The most fragrant and longest keeping cut flower. One of the most valuable introductions of late years. The flowers are the size of a medium Carnation, freely produced on long stems, which renders them valuable for cutting; color pure white, pale sulphur yellow and lavender. The flowers are sweet-scented, and their lasting quality after being cut is remarkable. The plants grow about eighteen inches high and are of the easiest culture; from spring-sown seed they commence to flower in July and continue until late in the autumn. The novelty is entirely distinct from all other Centaureas, and undoubtedly the most beautiful variety known. Mixed colors. Pkt., 100 seeds, 5 cts. One of the most popular of all green-house plants, and what a splendid display they make when well grown. I know of no plant so easily grown as the Cineraria. The secret of growing well is to grow fast, never allowing them to receive a check, either from being pot bound, dryness of root, or attack of insects: the cooler they are kept the better. In colors they range from crimson, magenta, violet, purple and variegated. Large flowering mixed. Pkt., 200 seeds, 8 cts.
