Book Description
Fantastic Victory tells the brief but exciting account of Israel's 1967 miracle war, and how this conflict split the world into two camps--those for and those against Israel's fight for its life. With less than 3 million people facing the combined strength of 110 million Arabs supported by the Soviet Union, Israel should have been wiped off the globe. Instead, after six miraculous days, Israel shocked the world by defeating her enemy and winning back not only her ancient capital of Jerusalem, but hundreds of miles of enemy territory as well. Fantastic Victory explains the complexities behind the decades of failed negotiations and subsequent wars to conquer the Jews. Israel's past and present are uniquely central to the world's three great religions--Christianity, Judaism, and Islam--and in the pages that follow, a framework for understanding Israel's future can be seen intimately tied to the outcome of its miracle Six Day War of 1967.

Book Description
Its object is to examine the Chanson de Willame and various related sources and to compare the latter, both with one another and with the Willmne. These comparisons will include many minor points of resemblance and difference, but the special aim will be to derive from such comparisons more general conclusions in regard to the cyclic relations of the chansons. The plan which will be followed is to give for each source, first, a resume and, second, critical notes upon the same. The resumes, though calculated to give good general views of the sources treated, are intended particularly to bring out points of special interest for discussion and cyclic comparison. Finally, there will be, at the close of the paper, a more general argument in regard to the probable origins of the legends and the development and cyclic relations of the sources studied. The sources which especially receive attention in this paper are, in addition to the Chanson de Willame: Foucon de Candie, Le Sto'fie N erbonesi, Aliscans, Les Enfances Vivien, and La C hevalerie V ivien. They are taken up in the order indicated.

Book Description
The surprise of the Yom Kippur War (1973) rivals that of the other two major strategic surprises in the twentieth century—Operation Barbarossa, the German surprise attack on the Soviet Union and the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The major difference between these events is that Israeli intelligence had a lot more and better quality information leading up to the attack than did the Soviet Union or the United States prior to those attacks. Why, then, was the beginning of the Yom Kippur War such a surprise? While many scholars have tried to explain why Israel was caught unawares despite its sophisticated military intelligence services, Dalia Gavriely-Nuri looks beyond the military, intelligence, and political explanations to a cultural explanation. Israeli Culture on the Road to the Yom Kippur War reveals that the culture that evolved in Israel between the Six Day War and the Yom Kippur War played a large role in the surprise. Gavriely-Nuri’s analysis provides new and innovative insights into the relationship between culture and socio-political phenomena and security.
