Bachelor Thesis from the year 2019 in the subject Business economics - Miscellaneous, grade: 4, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (Education), course: Research project, language: English, abstract: This study seeks to investigate the constraints militating against effective teaching and learning of business education in public tertiary institutions in Anambra State. Five research questions are raised to guide the study. The population of the study consisted of fifty eight (58) business educators. The instrument used for data collection was structured questionnaire. The data collected were analyzed using mean. Findings among others revealed that Inadequate teaching methods, Shortage of qualified business education teachers, Poor teaching equipment/ facilities, Inaccessibility of business education teachers/students to digital technology and internet facilities and Inadequate funding of business education militates against effective teaching and learning of business education in tertiary institutions in Anambra State at high extent. Education across the globe has been seen as the only veritable tool for progress and survival of a nation. The formulation and translation of good policies are dependent upon quality education. Educational institutions exist primarily for the purposes of cultivating, generating and supplying of manpower needed for the attainment of aims and aspirations of the society through developmental programmes (teaching and learning), conducting research to solve existing and anticipating problems as well as expanding other frontiers of knowledge by providing other varieties of services to the communities. The development of a nation is highly dependent on the quality of education received by her citizens. Based on the findings of the study, some practical recommendations are made which are; that there should be a joint funding programme by the government, schools authority and the community in the business education, and that there should be organization of sensitization programmes like workshops, conferences and seminars for teachers to update their knowledge in business education so as to face the challenges of teaching and learning processes and there should be provision of facilities, tools, equipment, models, specimen, machines and electronic device used for the teaching of business education in the tertiary institutions in Anambra State.

Three research questions were raised to guide the study; while three research hypotheses were also developed and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study adopts a descriptive research survey method. The total population of the study was 5,725 which consists of 5,522 Junior Secondary School (JSS2) students in Port-Harcourt Secondary Schools and 203 level four (4) hundred students of Business Education department, Rivers State University, Port-Harcourt. A sample size of 509 was drawn using simple random sampling technique. Taro Yamene formular was used to derive the sample size. The instrument for data collection was a self-structured questionnaire developed by the researchers and validated by the research supervisor. The most pertinent priorities for the business studies trainee teachers in dealing with secondary school students' misconduct in Port-Harcourt metropolis will be to maintain a secure and safe environment and also protect the classroom environment from threats posed by potentially dangerous troubled students. These priorities will obviously require recognizing the warning signs of trouble and preparedness to respond appropriately and decisively. Other priorities will include maintaining a classroom atmosphere of respect and civility, avoiding being manipulated by students with unreasonable demands, responding appropriately to unfounded allegations, and protecting oneself and one's institution from frivolous lawsuit.
