Book Description
Vectorlike fermions are an important target for hadron collider searches. We show that the vectorlike quarks may predominantly decay via higher-dimensional operators into a quark plus a couple of other Standard Model fermions. Pair production of vectorlike quarks of charge 2/3 at the LHC would then lead to a variety of possible final states, including $t\bar t + 4\tau$, $t\bar b\nu + 3\tau$, $t\bar t\tau\tau\nu\nu$ or $t\bar t + 4b$. Additional channels ($b\bar b + 4\tau$, $6b$, etc.) arise in the case of a vectorlike quark of charge $-1/3$. If the vectorlike quark decays into three light quarks, then the $(3j)(3j)$ signal is more difficult to observe, and the vectorlike quark mass is almost unconstrained by current searches.

Flavor Physics and the TeV Scale
Author: George W. S. Hou
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3662586290
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 210
Book Description
The second edition of this monograph discusses the usefulness of heavy flavor as a probe of TeV-scale physics, exploring a number of recently-uncovered “flavor anomalies” that are suggestive of possible TeV-scale phenomena. The large human endeavor at the Large Hadron Collider has not turned up any New Physics, except the last particle of the Standard Model, the Higgs boson. Revised and updated throughout, this book puts the first results from the LHC into perspective and provides an outlook for a new era of flavor physics. The author readdresses many questions raised in the first edition and poses new ones. As before, the experimental perspective is taken, with a focus on processes, rather than theories or models, as a basis for exploration, and two-thirds of the book is concerned with b -^ s or bs sb transitions. In the face of the advent of Belle II and other flavor experiments, this book becomes a part of a dialogue between the energy/collider and intensity/flavor frontiers that will continue over the coming decade. Researchers with an interest in modern particle physics will find this book particularly valuable.

Search for a Vectorlike Quark with Charge 2/3 in T+Z Events from Pp Collisions at Sqrt[s]

Book Description
A search for pair-produced heavy vector-like charge-2/3 quarks, T, in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, is performed with the CMS detector at the LHC. Events consistent with the flavor-changing-neutral-current decay of a T quark to a top quark and a Z boson are selected by requiring two leptons from the Z-boson decay, as well as an additional isolated charged lepton. In a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.14 inverse femtobarns, the number of observed events is found to be consistent with the standard model background prediction. Assuming a branching fraction of 100% for the decay T to tZ, a T quark with a mass less than 475 GeV/c2̂ is excluded at the 95% confidence level.
