Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1118952774
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 331
Book Description
A modern guide to computational models and constructive simulation for personalized patient care using the Digital Patient The healthcare industry’s emphasis is shifting from merely reacting to disease to preventing disease and promoting wellness. Addressing one of the more hopeful Big Data undertakings, The Digital Patient: Advancing Healthcare, Research, and Education presents a timely resource on the construction and deployment of the Digital Patient and its effects on healthcare, research, and education. The Digital Patient will not be constructed based solely on new information from all the “omics” fields; it also includes systems analysis, Big Data, and the various efforts to model the human physiome and represent it virtually. The Digital Patient will be realized through the purposeful collaboration of patients as well as scientific, clinical, and policy researchers. The Digital Patient: Advancing Healthcare, Research, and Education addresses the international research efforts that are leading to the development of the Digital Patient, the wealth of ongoing research in systems biology and multiscale simulation, and the imminent applications within the domain of personalized healthcare. Chapter coverage includes: The visible human The physiological human The virtual human Research in systems biology Multi-scale modeling Personalized medicine Self-quantification Visualization Computational modeling Interdisciplinary collaboration The Digital Patient: Advancing Healthcare, Research, and Education is a useful reference for simulation professionals such as clinicians, medical directors, managers, simulation technologists, faculty members, and educators involved in research and development in the life sciences, physical sciences, and engineering. The book is also an ideal supplement for graduate-level courses related to human modeling, simulation, and visualization.

Schuknecht's Pathology of the Ear
Author: Saumil N. Merchant
Publisher: PMPH-USA
ISBN: 9781607950301
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 970
Book Description
This book is a dedicated text to learn pathologic images seen during EUS. The digital anatomy correlation used in this work is the natural continuation of efforts to apply the University of Colorado Visible Human data set to gastroenterology. The Visible Human data set was created by Dr. Vic Spitzer and colleagues at the University of Colorado and is currently housed at the universitys Center for Human Simulation. The data set consists of high resolution transaxial digital images captured as cadavers were abraded away at 1 mm or less depths. These images are compiled into blocks of data and each structure is identified. This information can be used to pull out and manipulate 3-D structures as well as allowing one to review planar anatomy in any orientation. Using the Visible Human dataset, one should be able to find a normal anatomy correlate to any image found during a EUS examination. However, as important as normal anatomy is, it is the abnormal features which are the crux of an EUS examination. Endosonographers are asked to define lumps, bumps, cysts to find correlates for symptoms and abnormal laboratory findings. Accuracy requires a tremendous amount of skill and experience. To help in this task, we have assembled chapters from a world-wide group of expert endosonographers. These authors have shared their insight and images to help the readers of this work better see and understand some of the complexities uncovered during a EUS evaluation. DVD showing techniques for removal of human temporal bones.

Biliopancreatic Endoscopy
Author: Kwok-Hung Lai
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9811043671
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 252
Book Description
This book aims to provide the basic technology and recent advances in biliopancreatic endoscopy. The method of Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is popularly applied to enlarge the papillary orifice for removal of biliary and pancreatic stones, to relieve obstruction of distal bile duct or pancreatic duct by nasobiliary / nasopancreatic drainage or stenting, and to remove the premalignant tumor of papilla in recent four decades. The diagnostic role of ERCP is already replaced by the noninvasive images such as abdominal sonography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) and endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS). This book will be contributed by the senior members of the Digestive Endoscopy Society of Taiwan (DEST) who are the leading ERCPists of the medical centers and teaching hospitals in Taiwan. There are 21 chapters, including the various techniques of therapeutic ERCP and EUS, how to approach the difficult cases and prevent complications. Recently, many new facilities and techniques develop to solve the difficult problems, but those new methods may have potential hazard to the patients, particularly in the inexperienced hands. We will share our clinical experience and comments on the recent literatures, to illustrate the standard operative procedures of biliopancreatic endoscopy, and focus on the patients’ safety as well as efficacy. We hope this book will be helpful for the readers in clinical application and facilitate the junior doctors to choose the cost-effective and safe procedure to help their patients in the future.
