A fronteira não é o lugar onde as coisas acabam, mas sim o lugar onde elas começam (HEIDEGGER, 2012). Essa frase foi o ponto de partida para pensarmos esta obra e trazer para o debate as vivências dos professores e das professoras do campo, em uma realidade de limites entre municípios, os quais chamamos de fronteiras. As fronteiras, neste texto, não se restringem apenas ao território, ao limite geográfico, mas também, e principalmente, à cultura. Aquele professor ou aquela professora que saem do seu contexto para atuarem em outro diferente trazem consigo inúmeras marcas de sua cultura e, no decorrer do trabalho, das idas e das vindas, adquirem novos hábitos, novos costumes e também repassam os seus. A cultura é aquilo de mais significativo que pode ser caracterizado em um território. Nesse sentido, pautamo-nos na ideia heideggeriana de que a fronteira possibilita trocas entre entidades que se reconhecem mutuamente como diferentes, permitindo a proximidade e a distância entre homens e coisas. Escola, cultura e comunidade: a educação do campo em um contexto de fronteiras é, portanto, um convite ao leitor para pensar acerca da real necessidade que temos de conviver uns com os outros e que cada um, a seu modo, é indispensável para a construção do conhecimento, para a feitura de uma educação mais humana e mais justa, despertando as potencialidades e o interesse pela coletividade.
