Book Description
From wood and coal to predominantly oil and natural gas. Thermal Power Plants use fuels for power generation. Water is used for process, cooling, as well as for service/drinking requirement. Chemicals are used for conditioning of water, corrosion-control and sometimes for conditioning of fuel as well. Lubricants are used for machinery. These inputs generate waste products. Human related wastes (sewage etc.) are also generated along with the processed waste. These pollutants/wastes need to be treated before their disposal from the plants. The treated effluents are required to meet the limits set by Central / State Pollution Control Boards. The regulations, issued by these agencies, specify the maximum allowable limits applicable to the pollutants discharge from the Power Plants. This book is a serious effort that deals in detail with all the above issues and we are sure that scientists, academicians, researchers and professionals who are constantly facing these issues and are striving to move towards a zero emission regime, will find this monograph a very useful reference tool on the topic. Note: T&F does not sell or distribute the Hardback in India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Book Description
This book is the outcome of the National conference on Pollution control and Management in coal Mining and Thermal Power Plants organized in Sambalpur University by the Departments of Sciences during December 1996. Out of some 50 papers presented in the Conference, only 20 papers have been selected for the book which are most relevant to the subject of coal mining methods, cola chemistry, environmental problems due to coal mining and handling, problem of mine filling, coal combustion methods, air pollution problems, fly ash and bottom ash disposal problems and utilization of fly ash in agricultural and non-agricultural sectors. This volume will be an important reference book for planners, technocrats, scientists and other research workers engaged in the field of coal mining and coal based thermal power plants and for nonprofessionals interested is safeguarding the environment.

Book Description
Thermal power plants are significant process industries for engineering specialists. The power sector has been facing several crucial issues over the past few years. The primary challenge is to meet the increasing power demand in a sustainable and efficient manner. Practicing power plant engineers not only look after the maintenance and operations of the plant, but also look after a variety of activities like research and development, starting from power generation to the environmental evaluation of the power plants. This book discusses features, operational matters, advantages and limitations of power plants, as well as the benefits of renewable power generation. It also elucidates thermal performance evaluation, fuel combustion matters, performance monitoring and modeling, component fault diagnosis and prognosis, functional analysis, economics of plant operation and maintenance, and environmental facets. This book discusses numerous issues related to both coal fired and gas turbine power plants. It will be beneficial for undergraduate and research oriented students, and for engineers working in power plants.
