Book Description
Three guides for the systematic diagnosis of the insects directly along the rivers and streams. For the first time, the fly-fishing world has a perfect tool available to identify in a few minutes, or instantly, the aquatic insects belonging to the orders of Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera and Trichoptera. The guides are intended primarily for fly fishermen and for scientists working in the qualification of rivers, such as hydrobiologists, veterinarians and ichthyologists, who must frequently improvise if they aren't doing so already, even entomologists. The work consists of three guides (Ephemeroptera, Trichoptera and Plecoptera) designed to systematically determine the insects of these three orders. The system uses dichotomous keys complemented with photographs and drawings of the described morphological details. These keys are enriched with additional explanations which are in turn illustrated to simplify identification. But that's not all: where possible, tracking systems of "extreme simplicity" have been developed, as in the separation of Trichoptera families that are immediately recognizable by the characteristics of the case, or from particular features of the larvae do not build cases. One chapter is devoted entirely to the relationship between the Latin and English names of insects: all the insects that have an English name are identified along with the imitations that represent them; this link is extended to all the European species that may be of interest to the fly fisherman. With this information, it will be easy to associate any insect with its correct pattern in the English literature.

Book Description
Volume II After the mayfly family, detailed in Nymphs: The Mayflies, the fly fisher must know the caddisfly, stonefly, and midge populations just as well to catch trout that are keyed in on such insects. Nymphs: Caddisflies, Stoneflies, and Other Important Species gives the reader all the essential information about identifying individual species of these insects throughout their North American range, and then delves into detailed instructions for scores of artificial patterns to imitate them. Few books in fishing literature have focused so closely on so many individual species of the particular genera of aquatic insects in this volume. And just as in Nymphs: The Mayflies, this book contains numerous stories and anecdotes from Schwiebert's travels that illuminate the selection and use of nymph patterns, and recount great days spent on the water as interpreted through one of the great minds of modern fly fishing.

Book Description
An Introduction to the Aquatic Insects of North America serves as a standard guide on the immature and adult stages of aquatic and semiaquatic insects of North America. It offers information on the distribution, tolerance values, trophic relationships, and functional adaptations of aquatic insects that allows an additional tool for categorising them. This text is intended to serve as a standard reference on the taxonomy, biology and ecology of aquatic insects with updated keys to separate life stages of all major taxonomic groupings. To this aim, the authors have provided additional excellent color photographs of most all families of immature aquatic insects to assist the student and professional with correct identifications. New to the 5th edition: Over 7000 references A chapter on A Photographic Overview of Aquatic Insects of North America A revision and expansion of keys, as well as new figures added to the taxonomic chapters Added figures to the General Classification and Key to Orderschapter All chapters have been updated with significant changes to chapters on Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, Trichoptera, Coleoptera, Diptera and Tipuloidea Single chapters covering each Order of all stages of aquatic insects

Book Description
The fourth edition of this excellent identification guide to aquatic insects in New Zealand has been updated with the latest information, making it an essential resource as the demand for river surveys and water quality studies continues to grow. Since the third edition was published five years ago, there have been great advances in our knowledge of New Zealand's aquatic insects. This edition includes information from several new publications about the systematics of New Zealand aquatic insects. More than 80 new titles have been added to the reference list and cited in the text; this serves both to document taxonomic changes and to guide the reader to the expanding literature on the aquatic insects of NZ. The book provides keys to enable insects to be identified to the family or genus level. Notes on distribution, habitat, and problems likely to be encountered with identification are included, along with full references, glossary of terms, and an index of taxa, common names, and general subjects. This is a joint publication venture of the Entomological Society of New Zealand (Inc.) and the New Zealand Freshwater Sciences Society.

Book Description
Freshwater macroinvertebrates provide a useful and reliable indicator of the health of our rivers, streams, ponds and wetlands. As environmental awareness within the community increases, there is an increasing interest in the need to assess the health of our local waterways and school curriculums are changing to reflect this important ecological trend. The Waterbug Book provides a comprehensive and accurate identification guide for both professionals and non-professionals. It contains an easy-to-use key to all the macroinvertebrate groups and, for the first time, high quality colour photographs of live specimens. It provides a wealth of basic information on the biology of macroinvertebrates, and describes the SIGNAL method for assessing river health. The Waterbug Book is full of practical tips about where to find various animals, and what their presence can tell about their environment. Winner of the 2003 Eureka Science Book Prize and the 2003 Whitley Medal.

Book Description
Among the various groups of aquatic insects, mayflies (Ephemeroptera) are of special interest for professional limnologists, entomological researchers, naturalists, and even the dedicated fly angler. Traditionally, identification has been considered difficult. Implementation in environmental monitoring and freshwater management has led to an ever increasing demand for exact information on taxonomy and ecology. This book provides an up-to-date reference for Ephemeroptera identification, including last instar larvae (nymphs), subimago (dun), and male and female imagines. Recent changes in nomenclature are discussed in detail. Keys are provided for genera and introductory chapters characterize every family and genus. Species accounts follow a common format, providing a synonymy, characters for identification (including literature references), remarks (on type material, variation, confusing or extralimital species), and information on biology and distribution patterns. Male genitalia are illustrated by micrographs and line drawings. REM photographs of the egg chorionic structure are provided for genera and selected species. Habitus of larvae and imagines are, for most genera, illustrated by color photographs. The geographical area covered is Europe, including the European part of Russia, the Mediterranean islands, as well as North Africa. Additional information is provided for adjacent parts of the western Palaearctic Region. A comprehensive index, check list, and distribution catalogue (following the widely adopted concept of Illies' Limnofauna Europaean) allow for quick information on all species recorded so far in Europe.
