Book Description
This project investigates the relation between the energy as a performance measurement and the security level as well as the QoS routing and power consumption correlation when the security and routing protocols are applied. A mobile device has the drawback of battery sise limitation. The solution to the power limitation is to have the device components use power efficiently.. The elements related to the networks, such as the transceiver and CPU, consume high levels of power at the hardware level. On the other hand, applied software levels such as protocols and algorithms also consume large amounts of power. This project studies the security and routing protocols and finds that the protocols are different from each other in terms of power consumption based on the algorithms and techniques applied. The security protocols examined are Wired Equivalent Protocol, WiFi Protected Access, and Counter CBC-MAC Protocol, indicate that power consumption varies. Power saving also varied based on the investigation between the routing protocols, which were Power Aware Multi Access Protocol with Signalling, Minimum Total Transmission Power Routing and Min-Max Battery Cost Routing.

Book Description
Packet delay and energy consumption are important considerations in wireless and sensor networks as these metrics directly affect the quality of service of the application and the resource consumption of the network; especially, for a rapidly growing class of real-time applications that impose strict restrictions on packet delays. Dynamic rate control is a novel technique for adapting the transmission rate of wireless devices, almost in real-time, to opportunistically exploit time-varying channel conditions as well as changing traffic patterns. Since power consumption is not a linear function of the rate and varies significantly with the channel conditions, adapting the rate has significant benefits in minimizing energy consumption. These benefits have prompted significant research in developing algorithms for achieving optimal rate adaptation while satisfying quality of service requirements. In this book, we provide a comprehensive study of dynamic rate control for energy minimization under packet delay constraints. We present several formulations and approaches adopted in the literature ranging from discrete-time formulations and dynamic programming based solutions to continuous-time approaches utilizing ideas from network calculus and stochastic optimal control theory. The goal of this book is to expose the reader to the important problem of wireless data transmission with delay constraints and to the rich set of tools developed in recent years to address it. Book Description
The major expectation from the fourth generation (4G) of wireless communication networks is to be able to handle much higher data rates, allowing users to seamlessly reconnect to different networks even within the same session. Advanced Wireless Networks gives readers a comprehensive integral presentation of the main issues in 4G wireless networks, showing the wide scope and inter-relation between different elements of the network. This book adopts a logical approach, beginning each chapter with introductory material, before proceeding to more advanced topics and tools for system analysis. Its presentation of theory and practice makes it ideal for readers working with the technology, or those in the midst of researching the topic. Covers mobile, WLAN, sensor, ad hoc, bio-inspired and cognitive networks as well as discussing cross-layer optimisation, adaptability and reconfigurability Includes hot topics such as network management, mobility and hand-offs, adaptive resource management, QoS, and solutions for achieving energy efficient wireless networks Discusses security issues, an essential element of working with wireless networks Supports the advanced university and training courses in the field and includes an extensive list of references Providing comprehensive coverage of the current status of wireless networks and their future, this book is a vital source of information for those involved in the research and development of mobile communications, as well as the industry players using and selling this technology. Companion website features three appendices: Components of CRE, Introduction to Medium Access Control and Elements of Queueing Theory

Book Description
This Synthesis Lecture presents a discussion of Quality of Service (QoS) in wireless networks over unlicensed spectrum. The topic is presented from the point of view of protocols for wireless networks (e.g., 802.11) rather than the physical layer point of view usually discussed for cellular networks in the licensed wireless spectrum. A large number of mobile multimedia wireless applications are being deployed over WiFi (IEEE 802.11) and Bluetooth wireless networks and the number will increase in the future as more phones, tablets, and laptops are equipped with these unlicensed spectrum wireless interfaces. Achieving QoS objectives in wireless networks is challenging due to limited wireless resources, wireless nodes interference, wireless shared media, node mobility, and diverse topologies. The author presents the QoS problem as (1) an optimization problem with different constraints coming from the interference, mobility, and wireless resource constraints and (2) an algorithmic problem with fundamental algorithmic functions within wireless resource management and protocols. Table of Contents: Preface / Basics of Quality of Service in Wireless Networks / QoS-Aware Resource Allocation / Bandwidth Management / Delay Management / Routing / Acknowledgment / References / Author Biography
