Book Description
A review is presented of the current literature pertaining to high power rf field-plasma interactions. In the survey, the class of nonlinear interactions is restricted to the case where the effective dielectric constant of the plasma is a function of the local electric field intensity. Since the propagation characteristics of an em wave depend upon the effective dielectric constant, the presence of an intense rf field can modify the propagation characteristics of an em wave. The assumptions and basic theoretical approach of each author are discussed and the most significant results are summarized. The approaches used by different authors are compared. A critique is made of the various appraches and their advantages and limitations are pointed out. (Author).

Book Description
This anthology includes articles on experimental studies of the interaction of high-power electromag netic waves with collisionless plasmas and with electrons. The nonlinear interaction of waves with plasmas has been investigated both under free space conditions and in waveguides. A study of secondary-emission dis charges was made in order to ascertain their possible effect on measurements in waveguides. The results presented here on the interaction of high-power waves with plasmas and electrons are of interest to a wide range of physicists and engineers concerned with various questions on the interaction of electromagnetic radiation with plasmas, including microwave heating of plasmas and laser fusion. v CONTENTS An Experimental Investigation of Nonlinear Dissipation of Electromagnetic Waves in Inhomogeneous Collisionless Plasmas - G.M. Book Description
This book gives guidance to solve problems in electromagnetics, providing both examples of solving serious research problems as well as the original results to encourage further investigations. The book contains seven chapters on various aspects of resonant wave scattering, each solving one original problem. All of them are unified by the authors’ desire to show advantages of rigorous approaches at all stages, from the formulation of a problem and the selection of a method to the interpretation of results. The book reveals a range of problems associated with wave propagation and scattering in natural and artificial environments or with the design of antennas elements. The authors invoke both theoretical (analytical and numerical) and experimental techniques for handling the problems. Attention is given to mathematical simulations, computational efficiency, and physical interpretation of the experimental results. The book is written for students, graduate students and young researchers.

Book Description
One essential feature of plasma media is supporting various plasma waves and dictating electromagnetic wave propagation. This textbook provides students with an understanding of plasma waves, which is key to theoretical and experimental plasma research and understanding the experimental results, and will enable them to expand their studies into related areas. The first part of the text provides the basis of plasma modes, including the formulations, analyses and the physical characterizations. The second part introduces techniques for the studies of wave propagation in inhomogeneous plasma and of nonlinear mode-mode coupling in turbulent plasma as well as in active plasma, applied to exemplify the excitation of parametric instabilities in high-frequency (HF) wave heated ionospheric plasma. The third part introduces nonlinear plasma waves of periodic function forms and of solitary forms; a potential application of the HF wave-ionosphere interaction for setting up an ionospheric very-low-frequency transmitter for underwater communications is introduced. This is also a useful reference book for researchers in the areas of plasma physics and engineering, and in geophysics.

Book Description
In this work, the electromagnetic wave propagating in a fast growing plasma is studied experimentally and numerically. Theoretical models are developed to assist the numerical simulations. The plasma media involved in the study is classified into two categories, (1) the plasma density varies both temporally and spatially; (2) the plasma density is a function of time only. It is shown that the results of the numerical simulations based on the theoretical models agree well with those of the experiments. The agreement validates the developed theoretical models which can be used to guide and understand the future experiments on high power microwave pulse propagation and the future experiments for developing practical plasma devices. This study shows that the spectrum of a microwave will be modified while propagating through a fast growing plasma.

Book Description
The range of plasma conditions considered here is intentionally broad, systematic and relevant to such areas as plasma heating, plasma acceleration, laser-plasma interaction, and plasma confinement. This volume presents the principle concepts of plasma physics - with an account of the linear theory of electromagnetic wave interaction - and then covers nonlinear processes with extensive treatment of the pondermotive force. Related experimental work is thoroughly reviewed.
