La Méthode canadienne de prévision du comportement des incendies de forêt (PCI) est une méthode systématique permettant d'évaluer le comportement potentiel des feux de forêt. Ce guide terrain fournit une version simplifiée de la méthode en la présentant sous forme de tableaux. Il a pour objet d'aider le personnel de terrain à établir les premières approximations tirées de la Méthode PCI lorsqu'on ne dispose pas de version informatisée. Les estimations quantitatives du taux de propagation de la tête de l'incendie, de l'intensité du feu, du type d'incendie ainsi que de la distance de propagation et du taux de croissance du périmètre du feu sont données pour dix-huit types de combustibles correspondant à cinq grandes catégories (conifères, feuillus, forêts mixtes, déchets de coupe, herbe) comprenant la plupart des principaux types de combustibles forestiers trouvés au Canada. La Méthode PCI vise à compléter, et non à remplacer, l'expérience et le jugement des gestionnaires d'incendies.

The Canadian Forest Fire Behavior Prediction (FBP) System is a subsystem of the larger Canadian Forest Fire Danger Rating System, which also includes the Canadian Forest Fire Weather Index (FWI) System. The FBP system provides quantitative estimates of head fire spread rate, fuel consumption, fire intensity and fire description and gives estimates of fire area, perimeter, perimeter growth rate and flank and back fire behaviour. This report describes the structure and content of the system and its use with forest fire characteristics.
