Esta publicación pretende recopilar en un solo volumen, 9 documentos raros(fuentes primarias impresas) de difícil acceso y ayudar a promover el estudio histórico en este campo. Este primer tomo de la Historia Monetaria Documental de Puerto Rico (La Moneda Macuquina) nos muestra el proceso de la introducción en nuestra isla de la moneda macuquina en 1813 por emigrados de América del Sur. Al finalizar en la Isla las remesas del Situado Mexicano, nuestro primer Intendente de Hacienda, Don Alejandro Ramírez, autorizó en 1813 el uso de la moneda macuquina para mitigar la falta de numerario en circulación. La macuquina circuló libremente en Puerto Rico hasta 1857 cuando fue canjeada por moneda de cuño nacional español. Este libro ilustra algo novedoso para los numismáticos y es que hemos encontrado evidencia de un papel moneda el cual se fabricó para facilitar el proceso del canje de la macuquina por la moneda de cuño nacional. El libro muestra los valores de las diferentes de monedas que además de la macuquina circularon en la Isla y ayuda a complementar el conocimiento acerca de dicha circulación monetaria en el siglo XIX.

In this vivid musical ethnography, Timothy Rice documents and interprets the history of folk music, song, and dance in Bulgaria over a seventy-year period of dramatic change. From 1920 to 1989, Bulgaria changed from a nearly medieval village society to a Stalinist planned industrial economy to a chaotic mix of capitalist and socialist markets and cultures. In the context of this history, Rice brings Bulgarian folk music to life by focusing on the biography of the Varimezov family, including the musician Kostadin and his wife Todora, a singer. Combining interviews with his own experiences of learning how to play, sing and dance Bulgarian folk music, Rice presents one of the most detailed accounts of traditional, aural learning processes in the ethnomusicological literature. Latin America has been central to the main debates on development economics, ranging from the relationships between income inequality and economic growth, and the importance of geography versus institutions in development, to debates on the effects of trade, trade openness and protection on growth and income distribution. Despite increasing interest in the region there are few English language books on Latin American economics. This Handbook, organized into five parts, aims to fill this significant gap. Part I looks at long-term issues, including the institutional roots of Latin America's underdevelopment, the political economy of policy making, the rise, decline and re-emergence of alternative paradigms, and the environmental sustainability of the development pattern. Part II considers macroeconomic topics, including the management of capital account booms and busts, the evolution and performance of exchange rate regimes, the advances and challenges of monetary policies and financial development, and the major fiscal policy issues confronting the region, including a comparison of Latin American fiscal accounts with those of the OECD. Part III analyzes the region's economies in global context, particularly the role of Latin America in the world trade system and the effects of dependence on natural resources (characteristic of many countries of the region) on growth and human development.
