Book Description
Alleluia! Alleluia! Jesus Christ the Messiah is risen! Alleluia! Alleluia! Now begins our study of the scriptures after the Resurrection, through the Ascension, to the day of Pentecost. The first Easter reading is from Acts. Paul summarizes the miraculous events of the three-year ministry of Jesus. John describes the panic Mary experienced on the day of Resurrection, when she realized that the body of Jesus was not in the tomb. John and Simon Peter rushed over to see for themselves. John believed. The second Sunday of Easter is Divine Mercy Sunday, with the story of Doubting Thomas. The third Sunday, we read about God's plan for the salvation of the world in Acts and in Luke. We continue reading Acts for the fourth week. The Gospel according to John uses the imagery of a shepherd to describe God's care and concern for us. The struggles of the young church included the daily distribution of food. In the fifth week, we learn how the followers resolved some challenges of communal life. Many were certain that Jesus would return for them. Some sat around waiting. Others spread the Good News of salvation, as described in the readings for the sixth week. The Ascension of Jesus into Heaven is celebrated on the 40th day after Easter. In some dioceses, the celebration is moved to the seventh Sunday. The Pentecost is celebrated 50 days after Passover. The first disciples were all Jews and they were in Jerusalem for the feast when the Advocate descended like fire upon them.

Book Description
How do you prepare for Pentecost? As followers of Christ, we are invited to become Easter people filled with the Holy Spirit. The Resurrection is the center of the Christian faith. Without it there would be no Christian story, Christian church, or Christian way of life. Did you know that the Christian calendar sets aside a season of 50 days between Easter and Pentecost? The Easter season, sometimes called Eastertide, includes our Lord's ascension and leads to the Day of Pentecost, when Christians remember the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Jesus' first followers. Have you ever taken 50 days to deliberately walk the path from Easter to Pentecost? Trevor Hudson writes, "If we are willing to take the time to pause, the season of Eastertide can become a time punctuated with precious moments of encounter with our risen Lord." Pauses for Pentecost offers 50 brief meditations that guide you to reflect on a biblical word and scripture passage, then do a simple daily practice. The daily practices do not take much time, and they are designed to let the new life of the Resurrection and the power of Pentecost flow into your life. Discover how to open your heart and mind more fully to the joy of Christ, the presence of God, and the power of the Holy Spirit.

Book Description
The pandemic of the 2020 Easter season has been seen as transformative for human life. However, the transformation that modern science will bring into human life is even more fearfully exciting in the big picture of human history. The pandemic triggered a deep urgency in the author to question the Easter story in light of frontier science. When death is near us, we often think more about life and truth and are filled with the urge to experience them both. In the Christian story, God was born, died, and was resurrected on earth; ascended into heaven from earth; and will bring the kingdom of God on earth. What will be the continuation of our Easter story if the earth is no longer our home? What's the real meaning of the resurrection of the dead in his return if modern science has achieved everlasting life before his return? In this book, the questioning of truth is blended with a deep faith in the truth. It shows that waiting for the Messiah is not a stilled life putting the future on pause but a dance of life. For the characters of this book, the dance of life in lockdown in a small town did not block their awareness of hunger, violence, and injustice happening in the world or limit their vision for the kingdom of God. That could be said about millions of lives at the time of Easter 2020, as millions of people have given their lives for others. Remembering the Easter of 2020 is remembering you.
