Book Description
This books sets out an approach to the design and development of composite products that will lead to the maximum likelihood of developing commercially successful products, generally in the face of a great deal of uncertainty in most areas of the development process. The book is practically orientated, covering those areas of composite technology most critical to product developments, rather than those of the most theoretical importance, therefore providing a basis for mutual understanding among the broad field of composite specialists. The author's experience provides a hands-on approach to the methodology of design with composites. All those interested in composites design and manufacture, including those practising in such diverse fields as resin formulation, reinforcement, manufacture, design processing and manufacturing engineering will find this book invaluable.

Book Description
PMBOK®, PRINCE2®, and Scrum are today's three most widely recognized project management standards. The most successful project managers know how to draw on all three, and often combine them to deliver their projects more effectively and efficiently. In Mastering Principles and Practices in PMBOK, Prince2, and Scrum, Jihane Roudias shows project managers how these methods complement each other, how to integrate them, and how to troubleshoot projects involving any or all of them. Roudias illuminates core project concepts, processes, and areas of knowledge in each methodology, guides you in synthesizing them, and reviews the types of difficulties you may encounter in each project process. Drawing on extensive personal experience, Roudias also emphasizes the importance of project risk management, monitoring, and evaluation systems – and demonstrates how to use them to make timely and informed decisions at every stage of your project. For every project management practitioner and student pursuing PMBOK/PMI, PRINCE2, and/or Scrum certification, or seeking to use these methodologies together to achieve better project performance.

Book Description
Global aquaculture production has grown rapidly over the last 50 years. It is generally accepted that there is limited potential to increase traditional fisheries since most fish stocks are well or fully exploited. Consequently increased aquaculture production is required in order to maintain global per capita fish consumption at the present level. Fish farming enables greater control of product quality and safety, and presents the possibility of tailoring products according to consumer demands. This important collection reviews safety and quality issues in farmed fish and presents methods to improve product characteristics. The first part of the book focuses on chemical contaminants, chemical use in aquaculture and farmed fish safety. After an opening chapter discussing the risks and benefits of consumption of farmed fish, subsequent contributions consider environmental contaminants, pesticides, drug use and antibiotic resistance in aquaculture. Part two addresses important quality issues, such as selective breeding to improve flesh quality, the effects of dietary factors including alternative lipids and proteins sources on eating quality, microbial safety of farmed products, parasites, flesh colouration and off-flavours. Welfare issues and the ethical quality of farmed products are also covered. The final part discusses ways of managing of product quality, with chapters on HACCP, monitoring and surveillance, authenticity and product labelling. With its distinguished editor and international team of contributors, Improving farmed fish quality and safety is a standard reference for aquaculture industry professionals and academics in the field. - Reviews safety and quality issues in farmed fish and presents methods to improve product characteristics - Discusses contaminants, persistent organic pollutants and veterinary drug residues and methods for their reduction and control - Addresses important quality issues, genetic control of flesh characteristics and the effects of feed on product nutritional and sensory quality

Book Description
The focus of this book is surface modification, with the goal of tailoring materials for a specific application. By means of this approach, ideal bulk properties of a material, such as its tensile strength (temperature stability, density, or even cost) can be combined with optimized surface properties, such as hardness, biocompatibility, low or high friction or adhesion, water repellency or wettability, or catalytic activity. The works of the author — many of his crucial papers are included — deal with the understanding and modification of surfaces and span fields including catalysis, analytical surface science, self-assembled monolayers, tribology, biomaterials, superhydrophobicity and polymer coatings.

Book Description
The Medical Devices Directive (MDD) is an all-encompassing document legislating for the manufacture of any medical device or material used either temporarily or permanently on or in the human body. To achieve its main objectives the MDD requires the manufacturer of all products covered by the Directive to possess a fully auditable Quality Management System consisting of Quality Policies, Quality Procedures and Work Instructions, based on the ISO 9000 standard. The book is based on the sound principles of ISO 9000 and will guide to the reader, if required, to eventually set up an ISO 9000 fully compliant system. MDD-Compliance using Quality Management Techniques consists of the following: * A brief guide to the Medical Devices Directive - explaining the main requirements of the directive, translating legal "Eurospeak" into everyday language * An overview of ISO 9000 and how the MDD links in with these international requirements. * A Quality Manual - will provide a template for a complete Quality Management System that can be used by any product being produced under the requirements of the MDD * CD ROM containing a software copy of the Quality Manual * A User manual consisting of clear instructions and flow charts on how to set up and use the Quality Management System described in the Quality Manual

Book Description
The rapid growth in use of programmable technology, in nearly all sectors of Engineering, is a well-known established trend and one which there is every reason to believe will continue into the foreseeable future. The drivers of this trend include cost, flexibility, rich functionality and certain reliability and safety advantages. However, as explained in this book, these advantages have to be carefully weighed against a number of dis advantages which, amongst other things, have fundamental implications for reliability and safety. Ideally, a programmable system would be viewed as a fusion of hardware, software and user (or 'skinware'), operating under a set of environmental conditions. To date, such a unifying model does not exist and so hardware, software and human factors are still considered largely as three separate disciplines, albeit with certain interdependencies. Established techniques are available which enable the engineer to develop systems comprising purely hardware components to a prescribed reliability and performance. Software, however, is fundamentally different in a number of ways, and does not lend itself to equivalent analysis. A major problem with software is its poor 'visibility', and consequently the great difficulty in understanding and predicting its behaviour in all cir cumstances. This results in the ever-present software design flaws, or 'bugs', which have plagued the software industry from its beginnings.

Book Description
Software Quality Assurance in Large Scale and Complex Software-intensive Systems presents novel and high-quality research related approaches that relate the quality of software architecture to system requirements, system architecture and enterprise-architecture, or software testing. Modern software has become complex and adaptable due to the emergence of globalization and new software technologies, devices and networks. These changes challenge both traditional software quality assurance techniques and software engineers to ensure software quality when building today (and tomorrow's) adaptive, context-sensitive, and highly diverse applications. This edited volume presents state of the art techniques, methodologies, tools, best practices and guidelines for software quality assurance and offers guidance for future software engineering research and practice. Each contributed chapter considers the practical application of the topic through case studies, experiments, empirical validation, or systematic comparisons with other approaches already in practice. Topics of interest include, but are not limited, to: quality attributes of system/software architectures; aligning enterprise, system, and software architecture from the point of view of total quality; design decisions and their influence on the quality of system/software architecture; methods and processes for evaluating architecture quality; quality assessment of legacy systems and third party applications; lessons learned and empirical validation of theories and frameworks on architectural quality; empirical validation and testing for assessing architecture quality. - Focused on quality assurance at all levels of software design and development - Covers domain-specific software quality assurance issues e.g. for cloud, mobile, security, context-sensitive, mash-up and autonomic systems - Explains likely trade-offs from design decisions in the context of complex software system engineering and quality assurance - Includes practical case studies of software quality assurance for complex, adaptive and context-critical systems
