Book Description
Many people have asked me why I've written this book. The reason is simple. Although I have lived around diabetes since I was seven years old, even though several of my friends and neighbours were diagnosed with the condition years ahead of my own recent diagnosis, it wasn't until I was diagnosed that I truly realised the terrifying level of apathy and denial there is about diabetes, the minefield of misinformation that is out there, nor how enormous the spread of this global pandemic has become. There are countless books and theories and claims and counterclaims about diabetes, and in no way is this modest little publication designed to be the ultimate authority on the disease – far from it. No, my reason for doing this is to make you laugh, make you think, wake you up and show you both how easy and how important it is that you take responsibility and take it seriously… NOW. My father was a pharmaceutical chemist, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Health (London), chairman of an international pharmaceutical company… and a diabetic. He was diagnosed with Type Two diabetes when he was 36 years old, slim bordering on skinny, active and otherwise healthy. His career began in medical research and ultimately took him all over the world from the darkest corners of West Africa to the most fashionable quarters of Paris and the Caribbean. In the process he met some of the finest medical minds on the planet (many of whom are still my personal friends) and he witnessed some horrors that defy belief… and he did all this as a diabetic.Open, raw, honest, at times funny, at times poignant, at times unapologetically confrontational, this book is designed to inspire, assist and guide you – particularly if you are pre-diabetic, newly diagnosed with diabetes Type Two, or if you are a friend or family member of a diabetic. All facts and statistics in this book have sources from the official authorities on diabetes… my irreverent language and tone have not!* Enjoy * Be inspired * Take action!
Don't Be A Dick
Author: Mark B. Borg
Publisher: Central Recovery Press
ISBN: 1949481034
Category : Self-Help
Languages : en
Pages : 204
Book Description
The single book therapists everywhere will recommend to all of their patients, because at some point or another, we all behave like dicks. Why this book? Because you might be a dick: a mean-spirited, self-focused individual who thinks and acts as though everyone else in the world can only be understood—and whose only importance is defined—in terms of their relationship to you. Being a dick might feel powerful in the short term, but it is not helping you in the long term because this flawed character trait is exactly what’s keeping you from attaining what you may want most: personal fulfillment, satisfying work, a loving committed relationship, and lifelong friendships. Anyone, at any time, can be a dick. Yet Don’t Be a Dick is especially for people who have noticed how their own behavior tends to backfire, leaving them feeling isolated and unsure why their seemingly justified actions consistently yield such poor results. If you’re constantly using the refrain, It’s not me, it’s them whenever something goes wrong, Mark Borg is here to tell you that it is, in fact, you. The good news is there is something you can do to reverse these behaviors and live a happier, more fulfilling life.

Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 336
Book Description
This book is in the field of trans-cultural psychology, and is intended for college courses in anthropology and psychology, and general readership. the book focuses on intriguing facts about primitive cultures around the world, and provides insights into living traditions and different world views. a principal theme of the book is that we can gain a better understanding of ourselves by a "detour" to other cultures. the book shows how modern ways of thinking are parallel to those of primitive cultures, and engages readers to become more aware of who they are. As shown throughout the book, there is not, after all, a very wide gulf between primitive and modern cultures. the book covers many topics including animism, shamanism, totemism, hunting and cultivation rituals, altered states of consciousness, envy and the evil eye, how people deal with conflicts, potlatches, cargo cults, how people satisfy the need for social approval, culture-bound syndromes, folk medicine, treatment of women, raising of children, nomadic peoples, treatment of the dead, and other topics.

Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 250
Book Description
A bold and uncensored fictional account of the wild life at Andy Warhol’s world-famous Factory by a real-life superstar who witnessed it all Author, video artist, underground film actor, and superstar, the incomparable Viva is arguably the most famous of Andy Warhol’s protégés, a mainstay at the enigmatic artist’s Factory. Falling in with an iconic artist referred to as A. and his coterie of outrageous, beautiful avant-garde acolytes, transvestites, boy toys, and hangers-on, Gloria is reborn, undergoing a remarkable transformation from sheltered young innocent to sexual athlete, film star, and media darling. Over the course of her reawakening, she sheds her every inhibition as she experiences what ordinary people only dream about in their most secret fantasies . . . or worst nightmares. Though the names have all been changed, the real stars of Warhol’s factory are scandalously recognizable. Viva injects her own unique style and personality into a story at once outrageous and brutally honest: the unforgettable making of a superstar.

Author: Nancy Guthrie
Publisher: Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.
ISBN: 1414328702
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 237
Book Description
Who wants to merely go through the motions of religion? We long for something authentic—something worth opening our hearts to, filling our minds with, and giving our lives for. We hope for something better than the “churchianity” of our parents and the vague spirituality of our neighbors, something better than guilt-induced, holier-than-thou morality, better than here-and-now, health-and-wealth promises. In her thought-provoking and authentic style, Nancy Guthrie shows that Jesus himself offers the something better we've been looking for, applying the truths of Hebrews to real-life issues such as guilt, shame, disappointment, hardship, unhealthy obsessions, personal ambition, and fear of death.

Clean Coaching
Author: Angela Dunbar
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1317574397
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 231
Book Description
Most coaches today see their role as mainly non-directive, helping to uncover their coachee’s own wisdom. However, coaches may unwittingly and unconsciously constrain what their coachees talk and think about, getting in the way of unique, self-generated solutions. Clean Coaching provides a different, simple yet highly effective approach to one-to-one facilitation. It is a style, strategy and set of techniques that help coachees gain insight and make changes through discovering more about their own ‘insider’ perspective: of themselves and the world around them. Through the use of specifically-phrased, structured coaching questions, the coach’s own biased perspectives are stripped from their language, ensuring the coachee’s unique personal experience is honoured. In Clean Coaching, Angela Dunbar explains how this approach works in practical terms, with descriptions of how to structure a Clean Coaching session and the steps to take within such a session. The book gives detailed descriptions of the kinds of questions to ask and provides a wealth of analogues, examples and case studies to bring the descriptions alive, offering a clear blueprint for action. In addition, the book explains where Clean Coaching has come from, describing the development of Clean Language and other "Clean" approaches by the psychologist and psychotherapist David Grove. It also tracks how "Clean" approaches have been adopted and adapted by other practitioners. Dunbar draws on current research in the fields of developmental, neurological, cognitive and social psychology to demonstrate why Clean Coaching works so successfully. Exploring Clean Coaching in detail, and informed by both research and practice, this book will be a valuable resource for coaches at all levels, including executive coaches and those in training, as well as managers and executives acting in a coaching capacity.
