Extractive Metallurgy of Niobium
Author: A.K. Suri
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1351448978
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 272
Book Description
The growth and development witnessed today in modern science, engineering, and technology owes a heavy debt to the rare, refractory, and reactive metals group, of which niobium is a member. Extractive Metallurgy of Niobium presents a vivid account of the metal through its comprehensive discussions of properties and applications, resources and resource processing, chemical processing and compound preparation, metal extraction, and refining and consolidation. Typical flow sheets adopted in some leading niobium-producing countries for the beneficiation of various niobium sources are presented, and various chemical processes for producing pure forms of niobium intermediates such as chloride, fluoride, and oxide are discussed. The book also explains how to liberate the metal from its intermediates and describes the physico-chemical principles involved. It is an excellent reference for chemical metallurgists, hydrometallurgists, extraction and process metallurgists, and minerals processors. It is also valuable to a wide variety of scientists, engineers, technologists, and students interested in the topic.

Topological Geometrodynamics
Author: Matti Pitkanen
Publisher: Bentham Science Publishers
ISBN: 1681081792
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 1235
Book Description
Topological geometrodynamics (TGD) is a modification of the theory of general relativity inspired by the problems related to the definition of inertial and gravitational energies in the earlier hypotheses. TGD is also a generalization of super string models. TGD brings forth an elegant theoretical projection of reality and builds upon the work by renowned scientists (Wheeler, Feynman, Penrose, Einstein, Josephson to name a few). In TGD, Physical space-time planes are visualized as four-dimensional surfaces in a certain 8-dimensional space (H). The choice of H is fixed by symmetries of standard model and leads to a geometric mapping of known classical fields and elementary particle numbers. TGD differs from Einstein’s geometrodynamics in the way space-time planes or ‘sheets’ are lumped together. Extending the theory based on fusing number concepts implies a further generalisation of the space-time concept allowing the identification of space-time correlates of cognition and intentionality. Additionally, zero energy ontology forces an extension of quantum measurement theory to a theory of consciousness and a hierarchy of phases is identified. Dark matter is thus predicted with far reaching implications for the understanding of consciousness and living systems. Therefore, it sets a solid foundation for modeling our universe in geometric terms. Topological Geometrodynamics: An Overview explains basic and advanced concepts about TGD. The book covers introductory information and classical TGD concepts before delving into twistor-space theory, particle physics, infinite-dimensional spinor geometry, generalized number theory, Planck constants, and the applications of TGD theory in research. The book is a valuable guide to TDG theory for researchers and advanced graduates in theoretical physics and cosmology.

Author: Syed M. Qaim
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642581137
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 1041
Book Description
This book describes the Proceedings of the International Conference on Nuclear Data for Science and Technology held at Jillich in May 1991. The conference was in a series of application oriented nuclear data conferences organized in the past under the auspices of the Nuclear Energy Agency-Nuclear Data Committee (NEANDC) and with the support of the Nuclear Energy Agency-Committee on Reactor Physics (NEACRP). It was the fIrst international conference on nuclear data held in Germany, with the scientific responsibility entrusted to the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry of the Research Centre Jillich. The scientific programme was established by the International Programme Committee in consultation with the International Advisers, and the NEA and IAEA cooperated in the organization. A total of 328 persons from 37 countries and fIve international organizations participated. The scope of these Proceedings extends to a wide range of interdisciplinary topics dealing with measu rement, calculation, evaluation and application of nuclear data, with a major emphasis on numerical data. Both energy and non-energy related applications are considered and due attention is given to some fundamental aspects relevant to the understanding of nuclear data.

Isotope Dilution Analysis
Author: J. Tölgyessy
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1483160920
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 197
Book Description
International Series of Monographs in Analytical Chemistry, Volume 49: Isotope Dilution Analysis focuses on the method of isotope dilution analysis (IDA). The book first discusses the principles, types, and theory of IDA. Classification of the methods of IDA; precision, accuracy, and sensitivity of IDA; and types of IDA are described. The text also examines experimental techniques, separation, and mass determination. The separation of components, reagents and tracers, and amount of substance separated are underscored. The text takes a look at the inorganic applications of IDA, including determination of elements and selected procedures. The text examines the applications of IDA in organic chemistry and biochemistry, particularly in the analysis of alcohols and ethers, steroids, penicillin, proteins and amino acids, and insecticides. The book discusses IDA with stable isotopes. Methods for the determination of isotopic composition, fundamentals and technique, and practical applications are underscored. The text also emphasizes the special applications of isotope dilution. Determination of the content of isotopic carriers in radioactive preparations; determination of the coefficient of self-absorption and specific activity; and determination of radioactive contaminants are discussed. The text is a vital reference for readers interested in isotope dilution analysis.
