Book Description
L'EVOLUTION NON LINEAIRE D'ONDES DE PLASMA ET ACOUSTIQUES IONIQUES EXCITEES PAR ABSORPTION RESONNANTE D'UNE ONDE ELECTROMAGNETIQUE EST ETUDIEE DANS UN PLASMA NON COLLISIONNEL, SANS CHAMP MAGNETIQUE EXTERIEUR ET PRESENTANT UN PROFIL DE DENSITE PARABOLIQUE. LA RESONANCE DE PLASMA EST SITUEE AU VOISINAGE DU SOMMET DU PROFIL DE DENSITE. LA RESOLUTION NUMERIQUE DU SYSTEME D'EQUATIONS DE ZAKHAROV QUI PERMET DE DECRIRE L'EVOLUTION COUPLEE DE L'ENVELOPPE DU CHAMP ELECTRIQUE DE L'ONDE DE PLASMA ET DES PERTURBATIONS DE DENSITE BASSE FREQUENCE, A ETE EFFECTUEE. DES EXPERIENCES DANS LE DOMAINE MICROONDE (F#0=3.5 GHZ) ONT MONTRE L'EXISTENCE D'UN EFFET NOUVEAU LIE A LA MODIFICATION DE LA PROPAGATION DE L'ONDE ELECTROMAGNETIQUE SOUS L'INFLUENCE DE PERTURBATIONS DE DENSITE DU PLASMA CREEES PAR LA FORCE PONDEROMOTRICE. CET EFFET CONDUISANT A LA RELAXATION COLLISIONNELLE DES ONDES DE PLASMA PIEGEES DANS LA CAVITE FORMEE A LA RESONANCE, NE PEUT ETRE PRIS EN COMPTE PAR UNE SIMULATION NUMERIQUE UTILISANT UN CHAMP DE POMPE CAPACITIF. LES MESURES EFFECTUEES ONT MONTRE QUE LES ONDES DE PLASMA ETAIENT PIEGEES ET RELAXAIENT DANS UNE CAVITE DE DIMENSION CARACTERISTIQUE DE L'ORDRE DE QUELQUES MILLIERS DE LONGUEURS DE DEBYE, ET QUE L'ONDE DE PLASMA DANS LA CAVITE ETAIT STATIONNAIRE. ON MET DONC EN EVIDENCE UN NOUVEAU REGIME DE TURBULENCE

Book Description
This new, third volume of Cohen-Tannoudji's groundbreaking textbook covers advanced topics of quantum mechanics such as uncorrelated and correlated identical particles, the quantum theory of the electromagnetic field, absorption, emission and scattering of photons by atoms, and quantum entanglement. Written in a didactically unrivalled manner, the textbook explains the fundamental concepts in seven chapters which are elaborated in accompanying complements that provide more detailed discussions, examples and applications. * Completing the success story: the third and final volume of the quantum mechanics textbook written by 1997 Nobel laureate Claude Cohen-Tannoudji and his colleagues Bernard Diu and Franck Laloë * As easily comprehensible as possible: all steps of the physical background and its mathematical representation are spelled out explicitly * Comprehensive: in addition to the fundamentals themselves, the books comes with a wealth of elaborately explained examples and applications Claude Cohen-Tannoudji was a researcher at the Kastler-Brossel laboratory of the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris where he also studied and received his PhD in 1962. In 1973 he became Professor of atomic and molecular physics at the Collège des France. His main research interests were optical pumping, quantum optics and atom-photon interactions. In 1997, Claude Cohen-Tannoudji, together with Steven Chu and William D. Phillips, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for his research on laser cooling and trapping of neutral atoms. Bernard Diu was Professor at the Denis Diderot University (Paris VII). He was engaged in research at the Laboratory of Theoretical Physics and High Energy where his focus was on strong interactions physics and statistical mechanics. Franck Laloë was a researcher at the Kastler-Brossel laboratory of the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris. His first assignment was with the University of Paris VI before he was appointed to the CNRS, the French National Research Center. His research was focused on optical pumping, statistical mechanics of quantum gases, musical acoustics and the foundations of quantum mechanics.

Book Description
What is a plasmon? Is it a particle, like a photon or a wave? Plasmonics stands at the frontier of condensed matter physics, which is the world of electrons, optics and of photons. Plasmonics is one of the most active fields in nanophotonics. This book begins by exploring the concepts behind waves, and the electromagnetic description of light when it interacts with metals; it dedicates every chapter thereafter to all aspects of plasmonics. In particular, the surface plasmon polariton wave is explained in full detail, as well as the localized surface plasmon resonance of metallic nanoparticles. The active research area opened by plasmonics, as well as its applications, are also briefly explained, such as advanced biosensing, subwavelength waveguiding, quantum plasmonics, nanoparticle-based cancer therapies, optical nano-antenna and high-efficiency photovoltaic cells. The book is adapted for graduate students and places a special emphasis on providing complete explanations of the fundamental concepts of plasmonics. Further, each of these concepts is illustrated with examples drawn from the most recent scientific literature. Each chapter ends with a set of exercises that will help the reader revise the concepts and go deeper into the world of plasmonics. More than 70 exercises are included.
