Book Description
In this work, we study the diffractive production of J/[psi] and [upsilon] mesons at the planned Electron Ion Collider at Brookhaven National Laboratory and Large Hadron-electron Collider at the CERN laboratory. In particular, we focus on studying and plotting the kinematical phase space in such ep colliders by considering the dependence of the ep → eV X cross section on the fraction of the longitudinal momentum of the proton x carried by the interacting target parton, square of momen- tum transfer t, as well as the photon-proton center-of-mass energy W. We consider individual contributions to the cross section from the quarks and gluons, which are calculated using parton density function (PDF) sets from LHAPDF for use in interpolation methods. In addition to plotting cross section dependencies, we also study the rates of diffractive events in both colliders for both heavy vector mesons. We do so by assuming an integrated luminosity L = 10 fb-1 for both EIC and LHeC while the colliders have electron-proton center-of-mass energies √s = 140 GeV and √s = 1300 GeV respectively.

Book Description
Understanding of protons and neutrons, or "nucleons"â€"the building blocks of atomic nucleiâ€"has advanced dramatically, both theoretically and experimentally, in the past half century. A central goal of modern nuclear physics is to understand the structure of the proton and neutron directly from the dynamics of their quarks and gluons governed by the theory of their interactions, quantum chromodynamics (QCD), and how nuclear interactions between protons and neutrons emerge from these dynamics. With deeper understanding of the quark-gluon structure of matter, scientists are poised to reach a deeper picture of these building blocks, and atomic nuclei themselves, as collective many-body systems with new emergent behavior. The development of a U.S. domestic electron-ion collider (EIC) facility has the potential to answer questions that are central to completing an understanding of atoms and integral to the agenda of nuclear physics today. This study assesses the merits and significance of the science that could be addressed by an EIC, and its importance to nuclear physics in particular and to the physical sciences in general. It evaluates the significance of the science that would be enabled by the construction of an EIC, its benefits to U.S. leadership in nuclear physics, and the benefits to other fields of science of a U.S.-based EIC.

Book Description
Filling a gap in the current literature, this book is the first entirely dedicated to high energy quantum chromodynamics (QCD) including parton saturation and the color glass condensate (CGC). It presents groundbreaking progress on the subject and describes many problems at the forefront of research, bringing postgraduate students, theorists and interested experimentalists up to date with the current state of research in this field. The material is presented in a pedagogical way, with numerous examples and exercises. Discussion ranges from the quasi-classical McLerran–Venugopalan model to the linear BFKL and nonlinear BK/JIMWLK small-x evolution equations. The authors adopt both a theoretical and an experimental outlook, and present the physics of strong interactions in a universal way, making it useful for physicists from various subcommunities of high energy and nuclear physics, and applicable to processes studied at all high energy accelerators around the world. A selection of color figures is available online at www.cambridge.org/9780521112574.

Book Description
The aim of this book is to offer to the next generation of young researchers a broad and largely self-contained introduction to the physics of heavy ion collisions and the quark-gluon plasma, providing material beyond that normally found in the available textbooks. For each of the main aspects - QCD thermodynamics and global features of the QGP, collision hydrodynamics, electromagnetic probes, jet and quarkonium production, color glass condensate, and the gravity connection - the present volume provides extensive and pedagogical lectures, surveying the present status of both theory and experiment. A particular feature of this volume is that all lectures have been written with the active assistance of selected students present at the course in order to ensure the adequate level and coverage for the intended readership.

Book Description
This volume contains lectures presented at the 14th Annual Hampton University Graduate Studies at the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (HUGS at CEBAF), that took place at Jefferson Lab and Hampton University from June 1st to 18th, 1999. The programme was focused on the structure of hadrons from the low to the high energy regimes, including a balance of theory and experiment, and emphasized topics in electron scattering on the nucleon and nuclei.
