Este libro es el producto de un encuentro y varios diálogos que se sucedieron entre diferentes antropólogos, antropólogas y antropologías diversas. En mayo de 2018 en la ciudad de Montevideo, Uruguay, coincidieron seis antropólogos y tres antropólogas integrantes de la Asociación Latinoamericana de Antropología (ALA). Fueron días de intercambios fructíferos en las conferencias y mesas redondas que se realizaron. Las actividades desarrolladas por la ALA, ya sea a partir de sus congresos, encuentros o políticas editoriales que lleva adelante, apuntan a poner en diálogo la antropología latinoamericana, buscando habilitar otros recorridos posibles dentro de las discusiones y problemáticas — tanto presentes como pasadas — que surgen en espacios locales y que no siempre encuentran la posibilidad de circular en los diferentes contextos que componen esta región del mundo. La ALA es una asociación de asociaciones, pero es ante todo un espacio para la reflexión teórica sobre el quehacer antropológico que procura describir, caracterizar y debatir los temas y problemas principales desarrollados y centrados en las formas de reflexión y comprensión antropológicas en América Latina y el Caribe, su repercusión, las distintas corrientes y el debate epistemológico surgido en la disciplina. Buscamos que la ALA sea un espacio de convergencia de distintos saberes, experiencias, reflexiones, debates y hallazgos, fruto del trabajo académico, investigativo y de intervención en los diferentes contextos, así como el vínculo entre las comunidades de antropólogos/as, investigadores/as y estudiosos/as de las antropologías en América Latina y el Caribe.

Compiled by the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress and annotated by a corps of more than 130 specialists in various disciplines, the Handbook alternates from year to year between social sciences and humanities. The Handbook annotates works on Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and the Guianas, Spanish South America, and Brazil, as well as materials covering Latin America as a whole. This book examines the emergence of small cinemas of the Andes, covering digital peripheries in Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru and Colombia. The volume critically assesses heterogeneous audiovisual practices and subaltern agents, elucidating existing tensions, contradictions and resistances with respect to established cinematic norms. Frauen forderten und verstärkten die kulturelle und politische Bedeutung der Selbstverwaltung der Frauen, während sie versuchten, ihre dringenden Wohnbedürfnisse zu erfüllen: ein Stück Land für ihre Kinder zu erwerben und diesen zu legalisieren. Diese intergenerationelle Beziehung zwischen der politischen Partizipation von Frauen und der Familie als politischer Kategorie zeigt, dass die Familie ein entscheidender Faktor bei der Entwicklung von Siedlungen unterschiedlicher Intensität und Bedeutung war. Das politische Engagement der Frauen fand während ihres gesamten Kampfes um den Zugang zu Wohnraum statt: Landnahme, Organisation neuer Siedlungen und Erlangung des rechtlichen Eigentums an ihren Grundstücken. Die individuellen und kollektiven Erfahrungen der Frauen zeigen daher einen dynamischen Prozess der politischen Subjektwerdung, der auf dem Anspruch "ein Stück Land für die Familie" basiert.

Pervasive myths of European domination and indigenous submission in the Americas receive an overdue corrective in this far-reaching revisionary work. Despite initial upheavals caused by the European intrusion, Native people often thrived after contact, preserving their sovereignty, territory, and culture and shaping indigenous borderlands across the hemisphere. Borderlands, in this context, are spaces where diverse populations interact, cross-cultural exchanges are frequent and consequential, and no polity or community holds dominion. Within the indigenous borderlands of the Americas, as this volume shows, Native peoples exercised considerable power, often retaining control of the land, and remaining paramount agents of historical transformation after the European incursion. Conversely, European conquest and colonialism were typically slow and incomplete, as the newcomers struggled to assert their authority and implement policies designed to subjugate Native societies and change their beliefs and practices. Indigenous Borderlands covers a wide chronological and geographical span, from the sixteenth-century U.S. South to twentieth-century Bolivia, and gathers leading scholars from the United States and Latin America. Drawing on previously untapped or underutilized primary sources, the original essays in this volume document the resilience and relative success of indigenous communities commonly and wrongly thought to have been subordinated by colonial forces, or even vanished, as well as the persistence of indigenous borderlands within territories claimed by people of European descent. Indeed, numerous indigenous groups remain culturally distinct and politically autonomous. Hemispheric in its scope, unique in its approach, this work significantly recasts our understanding of the important roles played by Native agents in constructing indigenous borderlands in the era of European imperialism.
