“The perfect kind of high-pressure adventure.” —TeenVogue.com A New York Times bestseller! Red Queen meets The Hunger Games in this epic novel about what happens when a senator’s daughter is summoned to the galactic court as a hostage, but she’s really the galaxy’s most dangerous weapon in disguise. A Diabolic is ruthless. A Diabolic is powerful. A Diabolic has a single task: Kill in order to protect the person you’ve been created for. Nemesis is a Diabolic, a humanoid teenager created to protect a galactic senator’s daughter, Sidonia. The two have grown up side by side, but are in no way sisters. Nemesis is expected to give her life for Sidonia, and she would do so gladly. She would also take as many lives as necessary to keep Sidonia safe. When the power-mad Emperor learns Sidonia’s father is participating in a rebellion, he summons Sidonia to the Galactic court. She is to serve as a hostage. Now, there is only one way for Nemesis to protect Sidonia. She must become her. Nemesis travels to the court disguised as Sidonia—a killing machine masquerading in a world of corrupt politicians and two-faced senators’ children. It’s a nest of vipers with threats on every side, but Nemesis must keep her true abilities a secret or risk everything. As the Empire begins to fracture and rebellion looms closer, Nemesis learns there is something more to her than just deadly force. She finds a humanity truer than what she encounters from most humans. Amidst all the danger, action, and intrigue, her humanity just might be the thing that saves her life—and the empire.

Reexamining the purported 1949 exorcism of a 13-year old boy in Mount Ranier, Maryland--the most famous and widely documented case in history--the author explores the subject of demonic possession in the light of science. Eyewitness accounts, unpublished photos and never before published documents from the archives of the Rhine Research Foundation provide fresh perspective on the events that inspired the novel, and later the film, The Exorcist.

Book Description
SIX CHARACTERS IN SEARCH OF AN AUTHOR * HENRY IV * THE MOUNTAIN GIANTS Pirandello ranks with Strindberg, Brecht, and Beckett as a seminal figure in modern drama. Innovative and influential, he broke decisively with the conventions of realist theatre to foreground the tensions between art and reality. In his best known play, six characters, imagined but then abandoned by their author, intrude on the rehearsals of a provincial theatre company in an attempt to play out their family drama. In the brilliant Henry IV, a young man believes himself to be the Holy Roman Emperor; attempts to cure him of his delusion have disastrous consequences. The Mountain Giants is Pirandello's last, unfinished masterpiece, in which he moves towards the mythical, and make-believe and real life once more become entangled. The play reflects its author's growing anxiety about the function of art under a fascist regime. This new edition includes Pirandello's important Preface to Six Characters, an essential critical document for understanding the play that made him famous. Anthony Mortimer's lively and performable translations remain scrupulously faithful to the letter and spirit of the originals.

Book Description
There are many subjects that appear in this book: Philosophy, Art, Fiction, Poetry, God. They are each approached through language that fits their content--language that itself shares characteristics of the subject it addresses. There are thus as many languages as there are subjects--exhibiting different forms of "being about" their subjects. Such forms are variously called "analysis," or "exegesis," or "criticism," or "speculation," or "invention," or "memories and dreams." Issues become fragmented at the edges--the limits--of their language. Fragments, in turn, seek the shape--the boundaries--of their content. The forms of "aboutness" are as varied, and numerous, as are their subjects. There is no exhaustive listing. There is one subject this book is most concerned with. It underlies the others and questions the value--the possibilities--of mutual reciprocation. This, too, has many forms: "What can or cannot be said." "Where are boundaries firm and where porous." "What is gained and what lost through interaction between subject-contents." "The many problems of synthesis." "What the difference is between 'Actual' and 'Real' in theories of life." "Contrasts between the nature--and the varying descriptions--of God and after-life." The contention here is that all given descriptions are partial, and that in these partialities and their similarities, ways can found to construct--however slowly and painfully--the larger subject-nature of living and dying.
