L'objectif assigne à cette thèse était de concevoir des systèmes d'aide à la décision en formulation chimique. Ces systèmes à base de connaissances répondent à la demande d'une entreprise spécialisée dans la formulation des produits de maintenance. Les systèmes mis au point dans ce travail sont capables soit de proposer des mélanges déjà existants, soit de formuler de nouveaux mélanges, répondant à chaque nouvelle demande, de plus en plus sévère, du client. Ils calculent ou estiment également toutes les propriétés physiques et spécifications de sécurité de chaque mélange propose, selon qu'il s'agit d'informations quantitatives ou qualitatives. En raison de l'ampleur de la tâche, nous avons restreint notre objectif au traitement de quelques familles de produits que nous avons choisies en fonction de leur représentativité vis-à-vis de l'ensemble des cas à étudier. Les familles choisies sont : la famille des solvants, la famille des produits d'entretien et la famille des phytosanitaires. Ayant opté pour la représentation orientée objets, le générateur de système expert utilisé pour cette étude a été G2, produit par Gensym software. Nous avons pu concrétiser la réalisation de deux systèmes experts relatifs aux familles des solvants et des produits d'entretien. En ce qui concerne la troisième famille, seule une problématique pour la conception d'un éventuel système expert a été dégagée. Une des principales particularités de ces systèmes consiste en une génération automatique de procédure à partir d'une interface utilisateur proche du langage naturel. Les systèmes proposés ont été adaptés de manière à faciliter leur mise à jour des lors que l'on reste au sein d'une même gamme de produits. La méthodologie utilisée, testée sur trois cas différents, peut être considérée comme assez facilement généralisable à d'autres problèmes de formulation. Les résultats proposés par les deux systèmes complets réalisés ont été validés par des experts et leur implantation sur le site industriel est envisagée.
