Book Description
Constant evolution in techniques to treat varicose veins has been driven by the need for: better patient comfort, reduced side effects and the desire for better and longer-lasting clinical results. New developments towards foam sclerotherapy (FS) warrant questions regarding their clinical and economic evidence. The purpose of this review is therefore to compare the available evidence on FS for patient with varicose veins compared with alternative treatment modalities (i.e., surgery, endovascular thermal ablation, or liquid sclerotherapy) in terms of their comparative clinical effectiveness, safety, cost-effectiveness, and evidence-based guidelines.

Book Description
Varicose veins (VV) and accompanied venous insufficiency is a frequent disorder, affecting about 30% of the Western populations. Chronic venous insufficiency has a major impact on patients' healthrelated quality of life (QoL) similar with different chronic disorders including DM as well as CVDs. The aim of this study was to assess and compare the applicability, technique and results of catheter directed foam sclerotherapy in management of varicose vein with and without mechanical injury to the vein wall. The study was conducted on 104 patients with primary VV between November 2017 to October 2019. All patients were admitted to vascular surgery department in Mansoura University hospitals. They were divided into 2 groups: A "chemical ablation" included 79 patients and B "mechanochemical ablation" included 25 patients. In chemical ablation group: catheter directed foam sclerotherapy of G.S.V was done using Aethexyclerol 3% by ureteric catheter. In mechanochemical ablation group catheter directed foam sclerotherapy of the GSV using Aethexysclerol 3% through flebogrif catheter. Complete occlusion was reported at 3 months for all cases of group A and 19/25 (76%) of cases among group B, after 6 months follow up occlusion occurred in 43/79 (54.43%) of cases among group A and 22/25 (88%) of cases among group B and long segment recanalization in 36/79 (45.56%) of cases among group A and 3/25 (12%) of cases among group B. Complications developed in 22 cases in group A and 5 cases in group B. In group A: 20 cases developed painful thrombophlebitis and one case reported DVT and only one case reported respiratory distress. While in group B: 4 cases developed painful thrombophlebitis and one case reported hyperpigmentation along the course of the vein. Patients in group B were more satisfied than group A patients with significant difference and also group B patients has less pain sensation than group A patients with significant difference.

Book Description
Varicose veins are known to affect approximately one third of the population and lead to reduced quality of life for patients. The traditional method of treatment has been surgery, but over the past decade, minimally invasive techniques have gained increasing prominence. These have been found to be easier to administer, less expensive, have shorter recovery periods and enables a more rapid return to normal activities. One such method is the use of foam sclerotherapy for the treatment of truncal incompetence and it has increased in popularity since the 1990s. Compared to surgery, the procedure is much cheaper and the recovery time is fairly rapid post-procedure. Patients have also reported improved health related quality of life afterwards. This book discusses the process involved in sclerotherapy, its potential complications and clinical outcomes.
