Book Description
The field of matter transport is central to understanding the processing of materials and their subsequent mechanical properties. While thermodynamics determines the final state of a material system, it is the kinetics of mass transport that governs how it gets there. This book, first published in 2000, gives a solid grounding in the principles of matter transport and their application to a range of engineering problems. The author develops a unified treatment of mass transport applicable to both solids and liquids. Traditionally matter transport in fluids is considered as an extension of heat transfer and can appear to have little relationship to diffusion in solids. This unified approach clearly makes the connection between these important fields. This book is aimed at advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate students of materials science and engineering and related disciplines. It contains numerous worked examples and unsolved problems. The material can be covered in a one semester course.

Book Description
Packed bed columns are largely employed for absorption, desorption, rectification and direct heat transfer processes in chemical and food industry, environmental protection and also processes in thermal power stations like water purification, flue gas heat utilization and SO2 removal. These Separation processes, are estimated to account for 40%-70% of capital and operating costs in process industry. Packed bed columns are widely employed in this area. Their usage also for direct heat transfer between gas and liquid, enlarge their importance. They are the best apparatuses, from thermodynamical point of view, for mass and heat transfer processes between gas and liquid phase. Their wide spreading is due to low capital investments and operating costs. Since 1995 there has not been published a specialised book in this area, and this is a period of quick development of packed columns. Packed Bed Columns reflects the state of this field including the author's experience on creating and investigating of new packings, column internals and industrial columns. - Considers the theories of mass transfer processes and shows how they help the construction of highly effective packings - Complete information about the performance characteristics of different modern types of highly effective packings - Considers the models for calculation and areas of their application

Book Description
The authors examined transfer of hydrogen gas from a salt solution in a high level radioactive tank. Utilizing existing data, we developed a methodology to estimate the liquid-phase mass transfer coefficient of hydrogen and benzene under varying conditions. These analyses indicate the impact of the operational and system parameters on the liquid-phase mass transfer coefficient for hydrogen and benzene. We compared the results to a published model of mass transfer coefficients, and noticed discrepancies between the measured mass transfer coefficients and those predicted by the model.

Book Description
This book introduces the fundamental principles of the mass transfer phenomenon and its diverse applications in process industry. It covers the full spectrum of techniques for chemical separations and extraction. Beginning with molecular diffusion in gases, liquids and solids within a single phase, the mechanism of inter-phase mass transfer is explained with the help of several theories. The separation operations are explained comprehensively in two distinct ways—stage-wise contact and continuous differential contact. The primary design requirements of gas–liquid equipment are discussed. The book provides a detailed discussion on all individual gas–liquid, liquid–liquid, solid–gas, and solid–liquid separation processes. The students are also exposed to the underlying principles of the membrane-based separation processes. The book is replete with real applications of separation processes and equipment. Problems are worked out in each chapter. Besides, problems with answers, short questions, multiple choice questions with answers are given at the end of each chapter. The text is intended for a course on mass transfer, transport and separation processes prescribed for the undergraduate and postgraduate students of chemical engineering.

Book Description
The discovery of a Standard Specific Baseline Mass Transfer Coefficient (KLa0)20 represents a revolutionary change in the understanding, designing, operation and maintenance of aeration equipment, as well as providing a baseline for future research and development for water and wastewater treatment systems. Previously, it has not been possible to correlate mass transfer coefficients (KLa) from one test to another, even under ordinary testing circumstances. This book discusses the use of the Standard Model to determine the baseline for any test, and its major finding is showing that gas transfer is a consistent relativistic theory of molecular interactions based on the Standard Model. Previously, the primary challenge was the appearance of divergences in the mass transfer coefficient calculations and estimations. This procedure of renormalization to a baseline is a great achievement in physics and engineering.

Book Description
This overview of diffusion and separation processes brings unsurpassed, engaging clarity to this complex topic. Diffusion is a key part of the undergraduate chemical engineering curriculum and at the core of understanding chemical purification and reaction engineering. This spontaneous mixing process is also central to our daily lives, with importance in phenomena as diverse as the dispersal of pollutants to digestion in the small intestine. For students, Diffusion goes from the basics of mass transfer and diffusion itself, with strong support through worked examples and a range of student questions. It also takes the reader right through to the cutting edge of our understanding, and the new examples in this third edition will appeal to professional scientists and engineers. Retaining the trademark enthusiastic style, the broad coverage now extends to biology and medicine.
