Book Description
Deconstructing Dinosaurs takes a fresh look at the history of the German Tendaguru Expedition (1909–1913), using recently uncovered sources to reveal how Berlin’s Natural History Museum appropriated and extracted 225 tonnes of dinosaur fossils from land belonging to modern-day Tanzania. It examines the colonial conditions under which the area’s inhabitants located, excavated, and prepared the finds and carried them out of the country’s interior to the coast. Once in Berlin, the fossils were transformed into valuable scientific assets and prize exhibits, foremost among them Giraffatitan brancai. This specimen, a prominent subject of provenance and restitution debates, is used to explore the colonial legacy of natural history collections and the social and political responsibilities of the museums that hold them.

Book Description
Do you get the feeling that the most popular trend in faith circles is to abandon faith altogether? Are you wooed by the voices inviting you to deconstruct Christianity? If you're tempted to leave the faith of your youth, you're part of a growing crowd. But if you're questioning the questions, you're not alone either. Joshua Porter has been there and back again. Now he's sharing the rollercoaster story of deconstruction in his characteristically thoughtful--and unconventional--voice. Buckle in and get ready for a ride that will both take your breath away and restore your heart. "A heart-wrenchingly honest account from someone who deconstructed and returned to tell the tale. This lived experience ensures that this book is a compassionate guide for those wrestling with their faith--faith that has been warped by the American culture, dented by doubt, and hurt by hypocrisy." --Mark Sayers, author of Reappearing Church and A Non-Anxious Presence "Deliciously dark, blisteringly honest, and funny . . . Like the best art, this book will provoke, not placate; ruffle your feathers, not soothe them; work you up, not calm you down." --John Mark Comer, New York Times best-selling author of The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry and Live No Lies "One thing we need a lot more of in our current moment is wise, thoughtful, and pastoral voices stepping into the main conversations we are all having. Josh is one of those voices and this book is one of those conversations." --Jefferson Bethke, New York Times best-selling author of To Hell with the Hustle "Josh writes as an insider, a wrestler with God, church, life, all of it--which makes his voice not just unique but credible. If you're going on a journey through your own deconstruction you need a credible guide . . . [Josh] will lead you to the real Jesus who is more radical, more rebellious, more tolerant and unwavering than popular podcast personalities dare to have you believe. If you want Jesus and not an off-ramp from faith, read this book." --Rick McKinley, author of Faith for This Moment and This Beautiful Mess

Book Description
The shift from traditional documentary to “factual entertainment” television has been the subject of much debate and criticism, particularly with regard to the representation of science. New types of factual programming that combine documentary techniques with those of entertainment formats (such as drama, game-shows and reality TV) have come in for strident criticism. Often featuring spectacular visual effects produced by Computer Generated Imagery these programmes blur the boundaries between mainstream science and popular beliefs. Through close analysis of programmes across a range of sciences, this book explores these issues to see if criticisms of such hybrid programmes as representing the “rotting carcass of science TV” really are valid. Campbell considers if in fact; when considered in relation to the principles, practices and communication strategies of different sciences; these shows can be seen to offer more complex and rich representations that construct sciences as objects of wonder, awe and the sublime.

Book Description
"This book is electric! Hübner goes about Deconstructing Evangelicalism with the skills available only to someone formerly embedded in the apologetics-oriented, take-no-prisoners, Calvinist-Piperian-Brownian conservative evangelical subculture. Brilliant. Learned. Passionate. Creative. Angry. Hopeful? Maybe. You must read it for yourself and find out. I will be studying this book for a long time to come." -DAVID GUSHEE Past President, American Academy of Religion and Distinguished University Professor of Ethics, Mercer University "This book is special: at once incendiary and charming, you are invited into the world of Christian fundamentalism, in all of its glory and complexities and traumatic realities. This world is a crazy place, filled with all of the political zealotry, casual sex(ism), and apocalyptic young-earth creationism one could desire. Hübner's story is a dynamic, sobering testament to that reality. From the depths of his days as an Internet apologist to his interdisciplinary career as a professor, we see the impact of religious fundamentalism on heart, mind, and body. For those who have walked through the valley of the shadow of fear, may you be filled with curiosity and joy at the sight of another theologian on the journey. From one sojourner to another, I am happy to commend to you the work of my colleague and dear friend." -NICHOLAS RUDOLPH QUIENT Associate Pastor, The First Baptist Church of Redlands Co-Host of the Sinnergists Podcast and Author of The Perfection of Our Faithful Wills "Many of Jamin's experiences mirror my own, and I am grateful we were friends while surviving as faculty at evangelical "liberal arts colleges." Reading this book has once again encouraged me, and given me a hopeful way forward, as he always has as a friend. His theological nuance and understanding highlights why evangelicalism is, in many ways, so superficial, and it will encourage anyone that their own deconstruction can lead to a stronger, more robust, and more inclusive faith in God. I will be passing along his book to my friends who come to me for help as they struggle with asking questions of who God really is." -KRISTY WHALEY PhD Theology (Candidate), University of Glasgow, Former Theology Faculty, Colorado Christian University
