And 1871, was superseded by the new Constitution, adopted on the 7th day of May, 1879, which was intended to meet the advanced condition of the State and the requirements of a progressive com munity. For convenience of comparison, the compiler has collated the old and the new organic instruments, placing them side by side, that the reader may at a glance discover wherein they differ. Following this is the text of the new Constitution, each section of which is followed by a reference to the Constitutions of other States having similar provisions in their organic laws, the language of which in many instances is identical.
