Mit einem kurzen Blick auf das kulturelle Gedächtnis, wird der Transfer auf ein interkulturelles Gedächtnis vollzogen. Hierzu wird ein praktisches und aktuelles Beispiel der deutsch-französischen Beziehungen, die seit Jahrhunderten immer wieder durch Konflikte geprägt ist, hinzugezogen werden. Nach einer kurzen Thematisierung des kulturellen Gedächtnisses im Assmann’schen Sinne soll eine Weiterführung des kulturellen Gedächtnisses auf ein interkulturelles Gedächtnis stattfinden. Der Begriff „Erinnerungskultur“ nimmt seit einigen Jahren eine stetig größer werdende Rolle innerhalb politischer, historischer und auch gesellschaftlicher Diskurse sein. Besonderen Gebrauch erfährt in den Diskursen der Erinnerungskultur der Begriff des kulturellen Gedächtnisses. .Aleida Assmann nimmt in ihrer „Einführung in die Kulturwissenschaft“ (2011) eine wichtige terminologische Unterscheidung zwischen den Ausdrücken „Erinnerung“ und „Gedächtnis“ vor. Die semantischen Differenzen zeigen sich schon in den dazugehörigen Verben.
