Book Description
This third book in the GISDATA series focuses on the widespread use of geographical information systems GIS in European local government. The editors include a wide range of applications carried out by different professional groups, and offer the opportunity of studying the extent to which diffusion of innovations like GIS are sensitive to national issues such as cultural context, institutional setup and the availability of data.; The book answers key questions such as: what can be learnt from research on organizational behaviour in relation to technological innovation?; what are the classical features of the GIS diffusion process?; to what extent is the adoption and utilization of GIS facilitated - or impeded - by the organizational culture within which it takes place?; and what mechanisms can be applied to enhance the diffusion of GIS? The book covers aspects of diffusion in the following European countries: UK, France, Italy, Poland, Denmark, The Netherlands, Germany, Greece and Portugal.

Book Description
In front of you are the proceedings of the First International Conference on Electronic Government and Information Systems Perspective, EGOVIS. This conference builts on the tradition of its predecessors, the Electronic Government Conferences (EGOV) under the DEXA umbrella, which have been ongoing for nine years, but it also - cluded some innovations. In view of the large number of electronic government c- ferences, we found it important to focus the scope of the conference a little and to increase the quality requirements. Hence this year’s conference featured a tougher review process and a smaller set of accepted papers. As a result, these proceedings contain the very best papers of 2010 covering various important aspects of electronic government and information systems used in the public sector. With an acceptance rate of less than 20% EGOVIS belongs to the top ten conferences in the world. The Program Committee accepted 13 full papers and 11 short papers, covering the most recent research trends in electronic government implementations, such as ICT for eGovernment services and monitoring, knowledge and content management systems for temporal and geo-spatial applications, interoperability for electronic government integrated architectures, decision and support tools for eDemocracy and direct parti- pation of citizens in the policy-making strategies, and Web 2. 0 and 3. 0 approaches for collaborative and transparent public sector services.

Book Description
This book highlights the latest improvements in cadastre with examples and case studies from various parts of the world. Authors from different continents, in association with national and international organizations and societies, present the most comprehensive forum to date for cadastre, offering a broad overview of land administration and contemporary perspectives on current research and developments, including surveying, land management, remote sensing and geo-information sciences. Cadastre is a universal concept and is defined as “the work of officially mapping and systemically registering the areas, borders and values of all kinds of land and property”. It is normally a parcel-based and up-to-date land information system containing a record of interests in land with rights, restrictions and responsibilities. It may be established for fiscal and legal purposes, to assist in management for better planning and other administrative purposes, and to enable sustainable development and environmental protection. As such, “cadastre” is an important public inventory documenting the records of ownership, bordering and responsibility regarding the land with “title deeds” to parcels and answering the questions of “whose land, where and how much”. The materials included in the book can support courses at universities and related training institutions worldwide, and will greatly improve readers’ understanding of the scholarly fields involved in cadastre: land registration and management, surveying and mapping, and geo-information management, land governance, land taxation and public administration etc.
