Book Description
This book offers a philosophical inquiry into the idea of curriculum as confession and considers how it can help us answer questions of justice, selfhood, and truth. It connects the field of curriculum studies and continental philosophy in order to arrive at new ways of thinking through the concept and act of confession. Utilising a phenomenological and deconstructive approach to thinking about curriculum, the author draws upon scholars including William Pinar, Jacques Derrida, Madeleine Grumet, and Michel Foucault to act as interlocutors for a re-thinking of Pinar’s statement that “we need educational confession.” The chapters argue that confession communicates the interplay between thinking, translation, and transformation, showing how confession can be conceived of as educative in both instrumental and existential ways. An innovative study that explores confession in both “religious” and “secular” senses, and conceptualises curriculum as a theological and phenomenological text, it uniquely explores what confession can reveal, how we tell the truth without violating the other, and how one does justice to the world they experience. It will appeal to scholarly audiences with interests in curriculum studies, teacher education, philosophy of education, religious studies, religious education, and theology.

Book Description
In liberal, democratic and capitalist societies today, we are increasingly invited to disclose our innermost thoughts to others. We are asked to turn our gaze inwards, scrutinizing ourselves, our behaviours and beliefs, while talking and writing about ourselves in these terms. This form of disclosure of the self resonates with older forms of church confession, and is now widely seen in practices of education in new ways in nurseries, schools, colleges, universities, workplaces and the wider policy arena. This book brings together international scholars and researchers inspired by the work of Michel Foucault, to explore in detail what happens when these practices of confession become part of our lives and ways of being in education. The authors argue that they are not neutral, but political and powerful in their effects in shaping and governing people; they examine confession as discursive and contemporary practice so as to provoke critical thought. International in scope and pioneering in the detail of its scrutiny of such practices, this book extends contemporary understanding of the exercise of power and politics of confessional practices in education and learning, and offers an alternative way of thinking of them. The book will be of value to educational practitioners, scholars, researchers and students, interested in the politics of their own practices.

Book Description
This book presents a vision for Glocal Theological Education, an invitation to rethink and reshape theological training in times of crisis. The aim is to train theological judicium, the ability to exercise sound judgment and practice discernment in the face of the different crises in the world of today--like the climate crisis, the changed role of the church, and the challenge of youth citizenship. It explores what has been learned from developing shared, global learning within the framework of local learning communities in Norway, South Africa, and beyond. The book also discusses key practices, such as the combination of coteaching online and learning in local contexts, and best-practice research on other educational activities. Contributors also reflect more theoretically on where, how, and what we can learn from crisis, and how these theoretical insights can help us shape theological leaders for the future who can read the times.
