Book Description
We have searched for direct CP violation in quasi-two-body charmless B decays observed in a sample of about 45 million B mesons collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II collider. We measure the following charge asymmetries in decay: [Alpha][sub CP](B[sup [+-]] [yields] [eta][prime]K[sup [+-]]) = -0.11 [+-] 0.02, [Alpha][sub CP](B[sup [+-]] [yields] [omega][pi][sup [+-]]) = 0.01[sub -0.31][sup +0.29] [+-] 0.03, [Alpha][sub CP](B[sup [+-]] [yields] [phi]K[sup [+-]]) = -0.05 [+-] 0.20 [+-] 0.03, [Alpha][sub CP](B[sup [+-]] [yields] [phi]K*[sup [+-]]) = -0.43[sub -0.30][sup +0.36] [+-] 0.06, and [Alpha][sub CP](B[sup 0]/[bar B][sup 0] [yields] [phi]K*[sup 0]/[bar K]*[sup 0]) = 0.00 [+-] 0.27 [+-] 0.03.

Book Description
We report measurements of direct CP-violating asymmetries in charmless decays of neutral bottom hadrons to pairs of charged hadrons with the upgraded Collider Detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. Using a data sample corresponding to 1 fb−1 of integrated luminosity, we obtain the first measurements of direct CP violation in bottom strange mesons, A{sub CP}(B{sub s}° → K−?) = +0.39 ± 0.15 (stat) ± 0.08 (syst), and botton baryons, A{sub CP}(?{sub b}° → p?−) = + 0.03 ± 0.17 (stat) ± 0.05 (syst) and A{sub CP} (?{sub b}° → pK−) = +0.37 ± 0.17 (stat) ± 0.03 (syst). In addition, they measure CP violation in B° → K+?− decays with 3.5? significance, A{sub CP} (B° → K+?−) = -0.086 ± 0.023 (stat) ± 0.009 (syst), in agreement with the current world average. Measurements of branching fractions of B{sub s}° → K+K− and B° →?+?− decays are also updated.

Book Description
This thesis describes a high-quality, high-precision method for the data analysis of an interesting elementary particle reaction. The data was collected at the Japanese B-meson factory KEKB with the Belle detector, one of the most successful large-scale experiments worldwide. CP violation is a subtle quantum effect that makes the world look different when simultaneously left and right and matter and antimatter are exchanged. This being a prerequisite for our own world to have developed from the big bang, there are only a few experimental indications of such effects, and their detection requires very intricate techniques. The discovery of CP violation in B meson decays garnered Kobayashi and Maskawa, who had predicted these findings as early as 1973, the 2008 Nobel prize in physics. This thesis describes in great detail what are by far the best measurements of branching ratios and CP violation parameters in two special reactions with two charm mesons in the final state. It presents an in-depth but accessible overview of the theory, phenomenology, experimental setup, data collection, Monte Carlo simulations, (blind) statistical data analysis, and systematic uncertainty studies.
