Book Description
L'AUTOMATISATION DE LA CORRECTION D'ERREURS SYNTAXIQUES REPRESENTE UN PROBLEME COMPLEXE QUE NOUS AVONS ABORDE DE DIFFERENTES MANIERES. TRAVAILLER SUR LES ERREURS IMPLIQUE TOUT D'ABORD UNE BONNE REPRESENTATION DES STRUCTURES SYNTAXIQUES CORRECTES D'UNE LANGUE, AFIN D'AVOIR UN CADRE DE REFERENCE POUR LES ERREURS. NOUS DECRIVONS LES VERBES DE TRANSFERT, I.E. VERBES QUI EXPRIMENT UN ECHANGE ENTRE DEUX PERSONNES, DANS LE CADRE THEORIQUE ET METHODOLOGIQUE DU LEXIQUE-GRAMMAIRE. CETTE DESCRIPTION, MISE EN CORRESPONDANCE AVEC UNE TYPOLOGIE D'ERREUR ETABLIE SUR LA BASE D'UN CORPUS, NOUS PERMET DE COMPARER LES VERBES DU FRANCAIS ET DE L'ANGLAIS ET D'ETABLIR UNE DESCRIPTION STRUCTUREE DES ERREURS QUE COMMETTENT LES FRANCOPHONES EN ANGLAIS. LA DETECTION DES ERREURS SUPPOSE ENSUITE LE TRAITEMENT AUTOMATIQUE DU TEXTE, IL EST DONC NECESSAIRE DE CHOISIR, PARMI LES METHODES EXISTANT ACTUELLEMENT, UNE METHODE D'ANALYSE ET UNE APPROCHE VIS-AVIS DES ERREURS A RECONNAITRE. DEUX VOIES S'OFFRENT POUR ABORDER LE PROBLEME DE LA DETECTION D'ERREURS : L'ANALYSE COMPLETE DE LA PHRASE ET LE REPERAGE DES STRUCTURES INCORRECTES DANS LE RESULTATS DE L'ANALYSE. LA PREMIERE METHODE IMPLIQUE L'UTILISATION D'UN ANALYSEUR DE PHRASES CORRECTES CAPABLE DE RECONNAITRE UNE ERREUR DE STRUCTURE, CE QUI REPRESENTE DEUX PROBLEMES A RESOUDRE : L'ANALYSE SYNTAXIQUE EN GENERAL ET LA DETECTION D'ERREURS. NOUS AVONS OPTE POUR LA SECONDE SOLUTION QUI PERMET DE NE RECHERCHE QUE LES EREURS SANS FAIRE UNE ANALYSE COMPLETE DE LA PHRASE. CE CHOIX IMPLIQUE QUE TOUTES LES ERREURS POSSIBLES SOIENT DECRITES, CE QUI N'EST POSSIBLE QUE SI L'ON A DEJA UNE DESCRIPTION DES STRUCTURES CORRECTES. LE MECANISME UTILISE SE BASE SUR UNE VARIATION DES AUTOMATES FINIS. IL EST AINSI POSSIBLE DE DETECTER DES ERREURS AVEC DE BONS RESULTATS LORSQUE L'ON DISPOSE D'UNE DESCRIPTION LINGUISTIQUE DETAILLEE.

Book Description
"This book reports the findings of an extensive research project on the acquisition of the native norms of spoken French variation by French immersion students who have learnt their second language primarily in an educational context. The project focused on a range of phonetic, lexical and grammatical sociolinguistic variants documented in studies of contemporary first language varieties of spoken French, and assessed the extent to which the students master the linguistic and extra-linguistic factors which govern variant choice. The book also discusses pedagogical strategies to improve the students' mastery of spoken French variation. The book represents an important contribution to an under-researched aspect of advanced Second Language Acquisition in an institutional setting."--BOOK JACKET.

Book Description
This volume presents the results of part of the ESF project 'Second language acquisition by adult immigrants'. The present study deals specifically with structure of utterances in learner varieties. The authors have attempted to find general principles which determine the form of utterances from the very beginning to relatively advanced stages. Chapter 1 and 2 provide the framework for the study and here the guiding hypotheses are sketched on the basis of a pilot analysis. The empirical part of the study is contained in Chapters 3-6, in which data are given for the acquisition of, respectively, English (by Punjabi and Italian learners), German (Italian and Turkish learners), Dutch (Turkish and Moroccon learners) and French (Moroccon and Spanish learners), thus allowing for crosslinguistic comparisons in various ways. For each data-set the learner's linguistic repertoire is established, and then the utterance patterns recurrent in his/her production and the constraints these patterns are subject to. In Chapter 7 the general and theoretical implications are discussed.

Book Description
"Second Language Acquisition in a Study Abroad Context" brings together for the first time a series of studies which explore the relationship between language learning and the study abroad experience. Utilizing different research methodologies (quantitative, qualitative, descriptive), the focus in this collection is on various aspects of second language learning, including the acquisition of sociolinguistic competence, the acquisition of fluency, the use of communicative strategies and the development of oral and written skills. The studies are cross-linguistic and deal with student populations at the secondary and college levels who spent between three months and one year in study abroad or exchange programs in Japan, Russia, Spain, Mexico, France or Canada.
