Excerpt from Methods and Results of Cooperative Extension Work: Reported Through County Agricultural Agents, 1922 There is also a tendency to reduce the number of lines of work in local programs in order that a larger degree of accomplishment in a few outstanding problems may be secured as against a necessarily smaller amount of accomplishment in many projects. There are only a limited number of working days in a year. For the average county only about half of the total working days may be used for direct work on projects. The balance of the time must be charged to miscellaneous work, to organizing committees, to setting up pro grams, and to conferences and leave. As a result, when too many projects are selected the agent can give little time to any one project particularly, if there are many communities. To be sure, organized and trained local leadership and hel from the specialists may com pensate to some extent, yet in the fast-analysis adequate time and direction to the work locally must a-lwa s be given by the agent.
